Whee, sales!

Just started writing a fairly long, rambling entry about my day's doings, and somehow, through the magic of technology, deleted the whole thing in the blink of an eye. Sometimes LiveJournal truly tries my patience. Growl.
Went to Leeds to do reading for (you guessed it) el language essay, but was foiled due to University library being locked. Wandering Leeds campus (not quite the urban wasteland I remembered it - more of a concrete palace) got me wondering what my life would have been like if I had gone there instead of the (lovely (though evil)) Nottingham. Hmm. Ah well. Leeds will always be there in the summer, I guess.
Since I couldn't read, I hit the shops :), and did a marvellous job of resisting things that weren't in the sales. That's prey for another day. Saw half-price Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Waterstones, and was sorely tempted, but was already buying other things, so let it lie. I sense it's day will come soon though. Purchased the next Lemony Snicket book, since the movie has rekindled my love of them, and then found a little book of movie 'postcards', featuring at least 5 including my beloved hook-handed man! At least 2 with only him or only him and one other person in the picture! Not that I'll be sending them to anyone, except perhaps me (I love you, hook-handed man. I want your tiny, weaselly babies). Anyway...also got Margaret Atwood's 'Oryx and Crake', as it was 3 for 2. Would have been happier with 'The Handmaid's Tale', but it was not to be. Was slightly pissed off to find 'Confessions of a Round-Heeled Woman' in the other Leeds Waterstones on 3 for 2 though. Growl - growl indeed...
Picked up a very small bottle of Fudge 'Oomf' shampoo (smells like bubblegum), and used it tonight, but am not entirely convinced of the 'oomphness'. Hmm. Shiny though. Dashed off to Virgin/HMV to expand the old DVD collection, and I swear to God, there was only one copy of Romeo+Juliet (1996) in the city, special edition or not. But I got it :). For a mere £10. Then 'Leon: The Professional' and 'LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring', because I do like LOTR, dammnit, and I don't know why I don't buy the films. Both also only £10 each - bargain. Then bought the 36 Crazyfists album because it was only £7 (minus student discount), and it's been bugging me for months. Does anyone know who they are or what they sound like? It was just the big frozen heart - it got me everytime.
Also got a huge new journal from Boots, linen-covered and only £4.50, and Sugar&Spice lip balm (only £2.33) from Bodyshop, who are doing an intruiging new range of perfumes - may need further investigation. And so in conclusion: saving. A pleasure second only to spending :)
Managed to get a hold of The Prisoner, episode one (the series is now only £25 in Virgin), and - Jesus. Freaky and cool and occasionally hilarious all rolled into one (why the Hell was he trying to beat up a bubble? What could it possibly achieve?). I wouldn't mind living in The Village. But then, I don't know anything, so I don't imagine they'd want me :(. It was weird seeing it after actually having been there though - like a really strange deja vu. Definitely going to have to write the Slash Village fic, at some point - everyone would have to wear skintight t-shirts and leather pants instead of crazy cloaks, and the druggings would include waking up next to your assinged shag-bunny/soulmate. Sigh. Am idly contemplating Prisoner slash, even, or the possibility that the whole thing is a gay parable. Just admit it, No. 6! They'll find a number 2 you fancy sooner or later!
Anyway...going back to Nottingham tomorrow, though not for good, as I'd thought. Dad isn't working, so is apparently willing to drive me down, wait for me to get/photocopy library books, and then drive me back again! Can't work out if he is lovely or crazy. We can take some stuff I'm not using down to the house, in any case, so we don't suffocate under the weight of Christmas presents and coats in the car this weekend. I might even nip into Habitat, since the one in Leeds has disappeared (and since when do we have 'Nelson Mandela' gardens? Answer me that!). Then, reading and analysing, which doesn't actually seem like it'll be too hard with modality. Have to crack on though - only a week left! Bye!

Date: 2004-12-29 05:08 pm (UTC)Having seen ASoUE today I am now in a position to comment that your hook-handed man love is... an unusual choice :). At least I go for Scary Jim Carrey (the majestic profile! the go-faster hair! the clothes! the miasma of evil! the dinosaur impressions! <3), who has... y'know... some actual film time. Now I feel normal. Yay! *gratitude* :):)

Date: 2004-12-30 02:37 am (UTC)As for the Prisoner, I'll need to see the full series before I can comment on the male characters, but there's a fairly foxy young man on the back of the magazine, dressed like a Victorian ringleader - 'rebellious kid'/no. 48? Could be a possibility...a 'rebel alliance', as it were...

Date: 2004-12-30 07:45 pm (UTC)Ah-ha! Now I see why you friended me!
2/6 = OTP, but it has to be a certain #2. The ones in Hammer Into Anvil, The Schizoid Man, and It's Your Funeral come to mind, but not Leo McKern, or the creepy little troll-woman from Dance of the Dead. Ew. The Hammer Into Anvil power dynamics would work very well too. Damn, now I have a plot bunny.
Though if you've seen the end of the show, #48 (The Kid) could easily be used for such nefarious purposes.
Anyhow, hi!

Date: 2004-12-31 03:10 am (UTC)Now I feel all guilty about my stealth-friending (blushes), but ah well - it's always good to meet new people. I friended you because you write fic (which I hope to do SOME day), and it seemed quite...interesting. Which, yes, I understand is mainly because of ithurtsmybrain (why can't you use rich text in replies? Why?). But still - thought it might be worth keeping an eye on.
As for the Prisoner thing, it's pretty much all Greek to me as I've only seen episode one (and a little of episode 4 last night, before my sister switched it off (growl)). I sort of know how it ends (that he meets no1) from some TV special I saw, but not much else. But there's a pretty village and the constant drugging and brainwashing of an attractive man, and that's good enough for me :). Am contemplating buying the series, especially now it's only £24 in HMV. But there's plenty else on my wish list...unless we see lots of that foxy Kid...
Anyhow, I'm rambling as usual, so in conclusion: ...hi.

Date: 2004-12-31 07:18 am (UTC)2. I had the fortune to grow up with parents in the US who wished that they were in the UK, so my introduction to The Prisoner came at an early age. I know more trivia than you could imagine possible. #48/The Kid shows up in two episodes that I know of: Living In Harmony, which is an odd Western episode with horses and saloons and a shootout, and Fall Out, which is the last episode. As you can see, I have him in my icon, for he is teh pretty.
