Well, I got up this morning and my cold was worse, not better. I just fully read through all the leaflets they gave me about having day surgery, and it says to contact them as soon as possible if I have a cold or chest infection. So tomorrow I'm going to have to get up around 6.30, have my light breakfast and a pill before I have to go nil by mouth, and then call and find out if I'm actually having the procedure at all. My mum thinks I probably will - she says they're not concerned about anything to do with your nose or throat, only anything lower, in your chest, and I don't think it's in my chest. But I am coughing stuff up from my throat, and according to the nil by mouth thing, I'm not even allowed to have chewing gum after 7.30. So I can't imagine what frequently coughing stuff up and spitting it out, or swallowing it if I'm not near a sink, is going to count as. It seems ridiculous, but then not being able to have chewing gum seemed ridiculous when they told it to me, so who knows.
I was a little bit wound up about it yesterday, because I'm a little anxious about the procedure, and I would just like to get it over with. But the fact is, it's not urgent, it's just an optional check-up thing, and I don't have to have it as quickly as possible, really. And if they have to offer me another appointment and it's not that convenient for me, I can ask for another one, as it's not really that urgent.
Another thing I learned from the leaflets - so it's a good thing I read them - is that my mum can't wait with me before I go in, or after I get out of the theatre. She'd been planning to, and I wanted her to, to the point of having a whole argument with my sister about how she was going to get the kids to school if mum didn't take them. But apparently relatives can't wait with you in the waiting area, or sit with you while you're coming round. She can hang out in the hospital - but given that she has no idea how long I'll be in there, that's not very appealing. She's still going to take me, and possibly pick me up (or dad will), but if I'm going at all tomorrow, I'm going to have to be there alone. Huff.
