girlofprey: (Should Have Angry Sex Slytherin)

I have been watching Prison Break series 1.

Right. So. The thing about Prison Break is that I haven't really been interested in it for a long time, except that I heard people talking about T-Bag sometimes and I quite like bad guys, even though he sounded like a REALLY bad guy, and it sounded like he was quite good. But I wasn't that bothered. Until I saw the Two Best Friends Play video of the game, and then starting looking around and found out that Peter Stormare is in it. I LOVE PETER STORMARE. So I got the first series and I watched it over this past week.

I was basically spoilered for a lot of Prison Break anyway, because some of my friends like it and I hear people in general talking about it. And I spoilered myself, because I wanted to know if there was really much Peter Stormare to go around and if trying to like T-Bag would end up being a huge slap in the face for me. And while I was looking around, I saw that there was some Abruzzi (Peter Stormare's character)/T-Bag slash fic about. "Oh?" and "Hurray!" I thought.

But even that didn't prepare me for quite the level of touching that they have in the show. The dvds I got are Region 1, so I can't take screencaps, but here is a selection of their touching that I found on the internet:

Also I'm not sure what the etiquette on stealing pictures off Tumblr is, but the one in this post here.

Also, they try to kill each other. MY FAVOURITE THING. So yeah. I slash them. I'm sorry to anyone who hoped I would be better, but I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU HOPED THAT. And it turns out I do like T-Bag. He's sort of just the most entertaining one to watch (for me). It's quite difficult that he's a paedophile, although they do keep changing that around a bit. His ex-girlfriend made a point of saying "students", and from what I can tell they were mostly older high-schoolers. Which is still bad, but not really the same as him going after 10 year-olds or something. But he did still rape and kill them. And I know that he's a bad person. I KNOW.

Also I loved Peter Stormare, but I always love Peter Stormare. I love when he came back from having his throat cut by T-Bag and was pretending to love Jesus, and went to go shake T-Bag's hand. And T-Bag didn't want to until he saw what was in Abruzzi's other hand. And he was all "T-Bag. After everything else, please don't insult me". And then they shook hands and he said something gay about warm hands. And then he left and T-Bag was all "Got to get me a knife". I LOVE THEM.

So yes. I have read allll the fic. I think I may actually have read all the fic, because I can't find anymore, even on fanfiction.net, and sadly some of the links are broken now. IT WAS GREAT THOUGH. THERE'S ACTUAL FIC. SOMETIMES AMAZING FIC. lsfjkd. It's a difficult pairing because - a bit like my other current prison pairing, Adebisi/Schibetta, it's often quite physical and sexualised, but doesn't always have a lot of emotional weight to it? But when you get into power dynamics it gets into brilliant territory really quickly. But then, since the main way I see it working is with Abruzzi dominating and abusing the fuck out of T-Bag, and given other things I've heard about T-Bag's history with abuse, it can get into squicky territory pretty quickly. But it's still amazing.

So yes. I have a new pairing. Which I love. In terms of the actual show, I quite enjoyed it. I pretty early on got used to Michael being able to do ANYTHING, and everything that seemed to go wrong being either something he could get out of, or something that was ALREADY PART OF THE PLAN. I quite liked him, but the stoic smirking he almost always did got a little wearing at times. Also, points should probably go to Veronica for "Stupidest Move of the Series" - out of a LOT of stupid moves - for going on national TV, knowing she was being watched by the people chasing her, and announcing that an "insider" had contacted her promising her information and would be meeting her in a few hours, giving said people plenty of time to figure out who that insider probably was and go kill him. Well done Veronica. But overall I really liked it. I will probably watch at least another season, even though I gather (from spoilers and such) that the glory days of Abruzzi/T-Bag are pretty much over.

So yes. I have been watching that mostly. And trying to ignore Pirates: In An Adventure With Scientists being one of the most disturbingly sexist children's films I've ever seen, with some extra racism thrown in to support the sexism. And trying to ignore the weird racism of Infamous 2.

Well, the weird racism of Infamous 2, because I can't ignore it - well. It's difficult to explain and I don't want to spoil it too much for people, but basically a big part of the game is making decisions to do either something Good or something Evil. In the first game you got a kind of voiceover of the main character thinking about two different options when it came to making a decision, but in this game you tend to get two different friends of his calling, giving him the two options. When the game starts the main character, Cole, tends to get Good suggestions from an female Asian FBI (or something) agent he's working with, and Evil suggestions from his slightly misguided best friend Zeke. However, then the FBI agent gets kidnapped, and he meets a black woman who lives in the swamps, who - well. I don't want to fall into the "the whiter they act, the less racist it is" mistake, but she's covered in tattoos, has a top on that splits to show in between her cleavage, a strong accent (which, despite the game being set in the Deep South, very few people seem to have), and has metal jewellery on all her fingertips that make it look like she has claws. And suddenly, Zeke is the one making the Good suggestions to Cole, and the black woman (Nix) is making the Evil suggestions.

Then the FBI agent woman comes back, and once again she is the one giving Cole the Good suggestions, while Nix is giving him the Evil suggestions. I mean, Nix isn't that bad, they give her a backstory that sort of explains why she's angry and wanting revenge and stuff, but they pretty firmly put her suggestions in the 'Evil' category. The Asian FBI agent woman, however, has been given powers while she was kidnapped, which make her skin paler and her eyes blue. That sounds like something that I might be making up, I'm sure. But no. Also, to top it off, the 'colour' of good decisions for Cole is blue - he gets a blue Karma Meter and blue lightning when he's good - and colour of bad decisions is red, and I just noticed yesterday that Nix's hair is a little bit red, and getting powers make the FBI agent woman (Lucy Kuo)'s hair go blue. So they're basically stating outright that the two of them aren't really characters in their own right, but really just part of Cole's decisions. So a little sexism thrown in there to support the racism.

I mean, Infamous was never that brilliant on issues, I had problems with the female characters and general storyline in the first game as well. But this just seems to be bad and getting worse, and I really don't know why they didn't see a problem with it while they were making it. Plus, on top of that, there's a little bit of cultural racism thrown in. As I've said, despite the fact the second game is basically set in pseudo-New Orleans, you don't really hear many people living there having Southern accents - EXCEPT for the evil Militia, which Cole has to fight, and their leader, who all have really strong, almost Hillbilly accents. Which just makes me think of that documentary Rich Hall did a few years ago about how Hollywood always portrays the South, as stupid, racist and violent, and the fact that - as with Prison Break really - you can literally tell who the bad guys are because they are the people with the most Southern accents. Even though in Prison Break, what with all the corrupt government people and prison guards, it's slightly harder to pick out who the 'real'/worst bad guys are. And even though in Prison Break, T-Bag's accent is wicked.

So yeah. All of that's weird. I'm still probably going to keep playing the game, because I really enjoy it, and I've already paid the company that made it, so it's not like I can hurt them in any way at this point. But it is kind of really terrible. I'm mostly just hoping it doesn't get any worse. You know, to the point where I really DO feel like I don't want to play it anymore.

So yeah. That's been my week. Also in Coronation Street, David wore black and blue, and I hate Kylie. And I hate Leanne. But whatever.
