Other things:
- So. That was suprising. When Gavin went through and Scott was in the bottom two, for a minute I was afraid that Matt would be in the bottom two as well, and possibly leaving. It was hard to know if this would finally be the week people stopped voting so much for Ann and Anton. But it turned out they totally would. Arguably Gavin deserved to be in the bottom two more than Scott did, but if people were thinking like me that he was already exhausted working two jobs last week, so might not be able to put as much into his dancing as he had before, maybe they didn't vote because they didn't think he'd be able to go as far as the others. But anyway, Gavin went through and Scott was in the bottom two. And then Ann and Anton were in the bottom two! It was kind of a result for me, given that they were the two couples I would have been most comfortable with going. For a minute though I was worried that Ann and Anton were going to be in the bottom two but not actually at the bottom, but no. They went, finally, and I can stop wishing they would go instead of people who are actually much better dancers.
So. Gavin got a reward out of improving, which was nice. And Scott went through, after getting a bit more back to the standard he had been doing weeks before. To be honest though, so long as Kara, Matt and Pamela stay at the level they have been at lately, I think those two are the most in danger of going next week. Gavin doesn't always cope that well with one dance, never mind three, and Scott is possibly still not likely to be able to put as much into it as he has before, because of his workload. But you never know. I have been wrong before. Yesterday, as a matter of fact. - It is December. I'm not sure I've entirely realised that. Christmas Day is two weeks on Friday, apparently. I've not bought any presents. I've not thought about any presents, really. I've not sent any cards. I've not put any decorations up. I've not really thought about the fact that it is Christmas soon. Help.
- I'm still watching The Event. I like Sophia. I like Blake Sterling quite a lot, as of last week. I like Sean quite a lot. I like how awkward he is about pretty much everything. The expressions on his face when the alien conspiracy lady was explaining things to them were one of my favourite things on TV of the past few months. And yet he is also stupidly competent, almost ridiculously so as of last night's episode. Yes, he can hack into anything, and is an awesome swimmer, and can disarm people at the drop of a hat, and a bullet through the shoulder? Is not going to stop him hiding effectively from Black Ops-trained assassins and then braining them when they get close enough. His girlfriend's father loves him. And hotwiring cars is no big deal at all. I am assuming he was forced into car-stealing during his troubled youth, until he decided to take on a lifestyle his niceness was suited to, and went to college. Anyway. Things have got slightly more boring since he found Leyla and got together with her, but I still quite love him. Mostly at the moment I am imagining what will happen when all the characters/good characters come together. I want Sean to meet Sophia and the president so he can be MORE AWKWARD THAN HE HAS EVER BEEN. That is just a personal wish though.
It's odd though, how the CIA seemed to have stopped looking for Sean. They seemed pretty interested in finding him when the FBI woman first took him back to her office, and now they seem to want to find Michael's daughter as well, and the FBI woman seems to be back with other FBI dudes and could possibly have told them what happened, and yet he's not been mentioned. I suppose they have had bigger things on their mind though, what with Thomas and Sophia and looking for the mole. Still. It's odd they haven't mentioned him since then.
Anyway. I sort of guessed that the aging drug thing might have something to do with the aliens, and some of them trying to look older. Is Dempsey working for Thomas? Is he not? Who knows. I totally expected the Vice President guy to be dead by the end of this episode though, and especially after all the time he spent on the phone to the president not telling him who the man behind the conspiracy was, and it didn't look like he definitely was dead at the end there. So that was a suprise. I am genuinely really enjoying The Event, frankly. How did Thomas and the other aliens know about Dempsey's assassination attempt? Unless Thomas really is working with Dempsey. Hmm.
I like Sophia and the President together, and Blake and Thomas together, that lift scene was amazing. I am not too fussed about Sean and Leyla together, but maybe they will improve? I like Sean and Leyla's father and Sean and the FBI Agent woman together more. And Simon, oh. I like him and his agent partner together. I want them all to get together and fight the alien/Republican conspiracy. Mostly. Hurrah.
The main problem I have with The Event is that if I wanted to go looking for fic or fandom for it, I can't really because the Channel 4 episodes are a few weeks behind the US episodes, still, I think. And I genuinely don't want to be spoilered for it. Although, my cursory searches for things are suggesting there isn't really that much fandom for it. Which is kind of sad really.

Date: 2010-12-06 07:51 am (UTC)At first I thought the aging drug, when we saw it on the little girls with the old-woman faces, was more a sort of vivisection-on-the-aliens things, with evil souls trying to use the aliens' powers for their own benefit and thus far they'd only managed to trap old women in child bodies. Rather horribly. But having seen ... Dempsey? You know more names than I do, but the moving force behind the assassination attempt. Having seen him use it I think your interpretation is much more likely. I wonder if it means that Dempsey is also a sleeper, or if he's running bold experiments on himself for the benefit of other sleepers. I definitely want someone unexpected to transpire to be an alien anyway.

Date: 2010-12-06 11:31 pm (UTC)As soon as I saw the little girls' faces, it made me think of that disease that makes people/children look old, but it was clearly something the people holding them had done, since they'd kidnapped fairly normal girls and given Leyla's sister that injection. And I thought "Who would have a use for something that makes you look older than you are? The aliens!". I only really thought about it properly this week though. And it seemed pretty definite when Dempsey's face went all old-young-old this week. We'll see. Also, I only know the names because I came and did this post right after watching an episode. Also because some people are Sean and Leyla and Sophia and Blake.
I was wondering if Sean was an alien. It might explain how he is mysteriously so good at everything. And he doesn't have any family anymore. But given how freaked out he seems by everything, it doesn't seem likely. But yeah, I keep expecting most people to turn out to secretly be aliens. Hopefully Dempsey won't be it for the season.
