I haven't seen a film with Sam Rockwell in for months, not since Frost/Nixon. Today I went to see Moon, and not only was he the main character, he was both the main characters. Hurrah. Oh I love Sam Rockwell. Sometimes I wonder if he's really that good of an actor, or if he's just playing himself a lot, because he tends to get everyman sort of characters a bit, I think. But then I remembered that he was playing a younger and older version of the same character in the film, and I spent part of it thinking maybe the younger one was the 'bad guy'. Which strikes me as a kind of great acting. Also he's VERY BEAUTIFUL. OH.

Anyway. I'm not hugely into sci-fi, but I liked Moon. I guessed the big twist beforehand, since I read a description a while back saying that the main character is an astronaut who things get complicated for when a younger version of himself turns up, and then a description in the last few days or so saying that when a routine task goes horribly wrong he learns exactly how the company he works for is planning to replace him. I could think of a way they might be planning to replace him. But I thought they did the whole thing really well, and the film wasn't just about the twist, so hurrah. Sadly it also meant I was expecting things to go horribly wrong from pretty much the start, because if the company you're working for is willing to replace you with a clone, seems like they'd also be alright with killing you to keep the secret. But it actually turned out better than I expected, so hurrah as well.

But anyway. The film. OH. He ran on a treadmill. He was lonely. He talked to his plants. He wanted to shake his clone's hand, and I can't remember when it actually was, but if the other one had done it THAT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN THE FIRST TIME HE EVER PHYSICALLY TOUCHED ANOTHER HUMAN BEING. He carried himself around. He tried to teach himself ping-pong. He put himself to bed when he was ill. He drew a window on the wall. The older him was slighty crazy and desperate. The younger him was angry and had plans. They wore astronaut suits. And jumpsuits. And GERTY tried to take care of them. I love the plot/idea about a computer system going over-the-top with protectiveness rather than being evil, so I was quite pleased GERTY ended up actually wanting to help Sam. HE HAD ONLY EMOTICONS TO EXPRESS HIMSELF. I really quite loved it when younger!Sam pulled off the 'Kick Me' post-it. OH. THE ENDING WAS A BIT TERRIBLE. In a sad way. But as I say, I was sort of expecting it. Overall, it was a bit great.

Anyway. So yes, I enjoyed Moon. Apparently Sam Rockwell is going to be in Iron Man 2. But unless Obadiah Stane comes back to life and has evil sex with him, and I don't know if I'm that interested in that. Except that of course I am.

OH I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I can't believe how great Moon was. I properly think that Sam Rockwell is a brilliant actor. I know that mostly my reason for believing this is that I have seen him in loads of things and I never realise it's him, which you could ALSO put down to my inability to recognise faces. But I also just think he's geniunely great - which, as you may be aware, is something I am always VERY RESISTANT to thinking about prettyish young actors. He did some of the best crying ever!

I LOVE THAT HE TALKED TO HIS PLANTS. I love that everything had a name. I love the lack of touching. I love how MILITARY the young one was and how sad and tired the old one was and I loved the AGGRESSIVE DANCING and OH GOD. I love how much the computer loved him and wanted to look after him. I LOVE SO MUCH ABOUT MOON.
