girlofprey: (Farscape John To Serve At His Command)

Hello. I went to my parents' house, and to Scarborough. Except that in the usual style, me and mum and dad set off a bit late to my sister's house, and she had only just got up when we got there, so we didn't actually set off until about 11:30 on the Saturday. I wasn't that bothered though, as I got to spend some time with my new nephew, who is adorable. But it took 2 hours to get to Scarborough, and then we wanted to eat before we got to the coast in case we had trouble parking, so we didn't actually get there till about 3 o'clock. And then we spent about half the time hiding in amusement arcades from the rain. I failed to win an Oscar the Grouch doll thing. Jack had his first go on the dodgems and won a couple of things in penny pushers, and later I had a knickerbocker glory, so it was all good. I do quite like Scarborough, and other slightly cheap seaside towns. We were going to go to the Sea Life Centre, but by the time the rain stopped enough to go find out where it was, it was pretty much the time it closed, or didn't let people in anymore or something, unfortunately. Mostly I noticed how many gollywogs there were for sale, which I thought was illegal now. And Jack went on some Iggle Piggle and Wild West Wagon rides. And then we pretty much came home. And that was our day in Scarborough.

I've been mostly in a John/Scorpius fugue of late. I can't believe no-one's written very much John/Scorpius. I love John/Scorpius. I love that it starts with Scorpius noticing John's energy signature. I love that then there is some torture. I love how softly Scorpius speaks to John. I love that he plants a neural chip in him. I love that he tries to control his mind at the end of season two. I love that he says the same thing to John as he says to his sexy alien lady friend. I love that John is always making jokes about the homoeroticism in a way that suggests he knows he could be down with it. I love that Scorpius always wishes he could see John's face when his plans are about to come to fruition. I love that Scorpius DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO QUIT HIM. I love that he tried to make John change his cooling rod. Probably he would have made John do that all the time if he had actually taken him back to his ship and totally failed to kill him. I should really check out The Peacekeeper Wars to find out how the whole thing ended, or 'ended', even if it turns out quite bad. Oh I love John/Scorpius.

It's been some weeks now, also, and people are still failing to write Obadiah Stane/Tony Stark fic. What's up with that?

I have to go to bed now for sleep, for work. Laters.

I LOVE SCARBOROUGH. OH. The last time I went it was misty and quiet and slightly spooky and looked even more 1920s than normal. I love seaside towns, I miss the coast so much, OH I'm sick of the Midlands. But Scarborough is not as good as Robin Hood's Bay. I AM ASSUMING YOU HAVE BEEN, have you been? Sometimes I consider giving up all my ambitions and good intentions and just retiring to live in Robin Hood's Bay in one of the houses on the main street that are four storeys tall and only one room wide. OH GOD, I will have wellies and dogs and I will walk along the cliffs every day and talk to the second-hand bookshop owners and befriend the ghosts of smugglers who roll barrels down the cobbles at night, OH GOD it will be perfect, YOU CAN COME AND STAY AND BEFRIEND THE SMUGGLERS TOO. North Yorkshire coast! ♥ ♥ ♥

I love that Scorpius always wishes he could see John's face when his plans are about to come to fruition

AHAHA. Yes. And the cooling rods. THE COOLING RODS. I seem to remember that John/Scorpius was abruptly supplanted in my affections by Braca/Scorpius and I CAN'T REMEMBER WHY. I'm pretty sure they never had the sexy tension that John/Scorpius did.

OH I LOVE SCARBOROUGH. We went, and it started off as a town, which was great, and then we got close to the coast, and there was a bridge and a roundabout with wire dinosaurs, and then we got to the coast, and omg. The theatre. The steep tram thing. The public garden/steps to the town. Everything I sort of remembered but got mixed up with every other seaside town I'd gone to a bit. And the buildings behind the front that turned their floors that rose above the front buildings into cafes because they had a view. And the steep little steps and alleys that ran between most of the buildings. The random little fairground/theme parks they just stuck on mini-piers ANYWHERE. The beach huts. Fresh hot donuts on sale. The grey drizzly rain. OH I LOVE IT. I was reading a detective novel once set in Aberystwyth. I think they should set more detective novels in seaside towns. I think that's the only place they should set them.

I have been to Robin Hood's Bay! I wasn't sure and thought I may have been somewhere called Robin Hood's something in Cornwall, but it turns out I went when we went to Whitby the same year as we went to Cornwall. I remember it being quite lovely and slanty, definitely a highlight of the trip. I WILL TOTALLY COME AND VISIT YOU. I am reading/not getting much further with a book at the moment set on an island just off the mainland which has a history of pirates and secret pirates living on it. I AM TOTALLY DOWN WITH SMUGGLER GHOSTS. We would probably have to set up a system of signalling as well! I AM QUITE PREPARED FOR A SYSTEM OF SIGNALLING.

I think it's probably to do with the fact that Braca quite liked Scorpius and was loyal to him, whereas John was not always that nice and from what people have said/what I vaguely remember possibly went a bit weird towards Season 4-ish. Braca was never really my dude, that's all, but that's possibly because I didn't watch enough Season 3/4. But I quite love John. I got Season 2 recently, and I was watching some of the 'important' episodes, and in Liars, Guns and Money Scorpius says on a recording "I can't see your face, John, so I'll have to picture your expression", and on the Royal Planet he says "Oh to be there when the scales fall from John Crichton's eyes", and I was all, "Oh to be looking at John's face ALL THE TIME, ey Scorpius?". I LOVE JOHN/SCORPIUS. And the cooling rods. I would have given many things for a scene where John changes Scorpius' cooling rods. It happens quite a lot in the AUs I have in my head where John is his personal server.

OH GOD YES. There should be more detective novels set in Scarborough than ANYWHERE ELSE. With the caveat that a lot of the crimes have to involve GHOSTS, and a lot of the secondary characters must be the ECCENTRIC RESIDENTS OF THE FAIRGROUND and there must be slash. Possibly of the detective with the gnomic red-moustached owner of the merry-go-round, or perhaps with the magicianish man in the house of mirrors. I GOOGLED PROPERTY IN ROBIN HOOD'S BAY and have dicovered that I could buy a two-bedroom cottage for a MERE £250,000. YOU CAN STAY IN THE GUEST BEDROOM. GET CRACKING ON THAT SYSTEM OF SIGNALLING, your reading will hopefully serve you well. WE CAN GO DOWN TO SCARBOROUGH IN THE EVENINGS AND SOLVE CRIMES.

I liked Braca's little face, I think. And I'm a sucker for that loyal companion thing. I love John, it is quite amazing how genuinely lovely he is, I love that Farscape is so good that it EFFORTLESSLY makes its straight white male omni-virtuous male hero WONDERFUL AND LOVEABLE AND GREAT, I love to see telly doing something well. I thought he DID change his cooling rod, SURELY HE CANONICALLY CHANGED HIS COOLING ROD, he certainly made a VERY STRONG IMPRESSION OF DOING SO.
