Things:

  • I left Nottingham for a weekend at the beginning of the week. They appear to have constructed a GIANT WHEEL in the town centre in my absence. Which turns out to be a ferris wheel, now they're a bit further along with it, and has apparently come to us from Cardiff. It's for the Nottingham Light Night thing tomorrow, I think, which I might have a look around. Mostly it's just impressing me when I look at the town centre from any angle. I wish for the life of me I could remember what they called the Ferris Wheel in Carnivale. Something great, that's all I can recall.

  • I watched Blazing Saddles, and it was slightly the best thing I HAD EVER SEEN. OH I LOVE LILY VON SCHTUPP. AND THE WACO KID. OH GOD, CLEAVON LITTLE, OH GOD. A major failing of last night's Torchwood was that no-one told Gwen she was making a WELSH SPECTACLE of herself. Oh. A lot of the other dudes in it were very good also. It was a bit great.

  • I watched last night's Torchwood! A lot of people thought this was going to be crap, but I really think it had everything you ask for. Including JACK HARKNESS, FRIEND OF THE SEA WHALES. And IANTO JONES, AVENGER OF THE INNOCENT. I love that they gave him a big black coat and suddenly he has kung fu powers. I believed that he wanted to taser guys in the head though. And release a single. Also it had Rhys being lovely. Can he and Gwen and Ianto not just team up to fight crime? THINK HOW GREAT THAT SHOW WOULD BE. Anyway. Next week's episode seems to be about Bryan Dick making everyone go mad. Which is a feeling I quite understand.

ETA: Also, Ianto is very good at getting out of knots. That must be very annoying.

  • Also I saw Cloverfield. Where is my story about Hud, Queen of the Monsters? Where's that film? Dude. He could have totally kept Marlena on as a hand-maiden, and they could have plotted together how to keep the monsters from killing people WHILE STILL KEEPING ON THEIR GOOD SIDE. Anyway. MOVIES THAT SHOULD EXIST ASIDE. I did rather enjoy it. It was an interesting idea, and quite well done, although I could have done without all the obvious movie love-plots. Oh, I wonder if she'll die before we've had any kind of resolution to issue x? They kind of ruined it. Also I think it could have done without the little monsters. They're for the sequel, dude. And only really served to provide extra shocks and make people go above ground again. Which they could have done with the characters NEEDING TO SEE WHERE THEY WERE. Or a cave-in, or something. And yes, the ending was rubbish. But I loved Marlena, and Hud's rubbishness. They made things much better. Also I think it could have done without all the obviously CGI shots of the monster, but hey. Mostly I wish there was a fanfiction challenge called Crossoverfield, where people write about different fandoms/characters having to escape a monster attack. It doesn't seem massively likely though, ALTHOUGH WIN.

  • Simon Amstell seems to be putting a pen in his mouth on Never Mind the Buzzcocks a lot more recently. Possibly just to please me.

  • Also I saw Penelope. Oh God, Christina Ricci is so beautiful. Reese Witherspoon didn't do as much as I thought she was going to do. But James McAvoy was great. And the whole thing was quite great. Except for a lot of the British people mysteriously having American accents. Oh well. Hurrah.

  • People at the probation office still seem to think the most important thing they should tell me is who they're meant to be seeing. And seem really quite reluctant to give me their names. As if I'm just going to call the probation officer and say "Someone's here to see you. They're asking for you. COME QUICK". Not so much, people.

  • I am reading posts and stuff. You might not be able to tell from the RADIO SILENCE.

  • I'm still quite in love with the Johanna Reprise from Sweeney Todd. It's here. Only slightly because of the "Smoke, smoke! Sign of the devil, sign of the devil!" bit in the middle. I think I may have a parenthood kink. Not in an incestuous way. Sometimes in an incestuous way. It occurs to me that I never did do that kinks list, did I. Hmm.

IT'S TOTALLY WIN. Oh, Bart/Jim. It was a a little bit disappointing when Jim got all competant, but it turns out Gene Wilder has the bluest eyes I've ever seen, so that's okay. And he kept putting his hand on Bart's shoulder to comfort him about racism. Oh. It's a bit great.

And Bart helps Jim up with his hand when he wants him to shoot the explosives and OH it was wonderful and I love them and they go nowhere special together at the end. I love them quite a lot.

Were they trying to lure you back again with a GIANT WHEEL? That's the sweetest thing Nottingham has ever done.

I think possibly they were CELEBRATING MY RETURN. Either way, it's really very lovely of them. Nothing says "We love you" like a giant wheel.
