Tony Blair's ministers apparently want(ed) him to go out on "a wave of euphoria". My first reaction was 'AHAHAHA!', but now I'm actually quite looking forward to it. In fact, I'm feeling a bit euphoric right now. It's time, Tony! Go!

My internet is being useless and slow, and taking at least two tries to load any page, and generally irritating me. And the server for work's internet crashes a lot. Which is probably a good thing, because they're being very nice about ignoring that my screen is orange or green more often than it should be. But still. Hmph >:|

Dad bought me a portable DVD player and my mum put £200 in my bank, so I can finally stop feeling vaguely bitterly resentful that when I got 10 A's at GCSE/5 A's at A-Level/graduated with a good 2:1 from the University of Nottingham, all of nothing happened. But I'm mostly just pleased about the DVD player. It is silver and shiny. And has a 9-inch screen (9 inches, baby!). And I love it.

Except that - I was quite specific that if he was going to get me one I wanted a multi-regional one (mainly to have an option if there was something I wanted that was only available on R1). And the box has a nice sticker on it saying "Multi-Region", but the actual box and the users manual seem to say "Region 2" quite a lot, now I'm looking at them. Which would be terrible. I don't want to give it back and, essentially, say "A better one, please". Or keep a gift I don't really want. I should really be less picky about the gifts people give me for free out of their love, I know. But, I suppose it's not like they're not used to it by now.

Another problematic gift is my sister's. I was toying with getting her Will and Grace Season 1 (£25 in HMV). After checking she hadn't, like, sold her DVD player or anything. But apparently she's suggested that I could get her some make-up, which doesn't actually narrow the field that much. Mum has suggested Boots vouchers, and, given that I have one lunchtime left for shopping, I'm probably going to go with that. Much as the cop-out hurts my soul. This week has really gone by very quickly.

Anyway. In tonight's Emmerdale Edna called Carl 'Mister Carl', and I almost physically flailed. And then he hid beautifully behind a green door to hear what a charity organising man was saying about not being able to hold a clay shoot on the land of a disgraced family, while Edna begged him to stay at least to talk to Carl, knowing his beauty would be enough to convince anyone. But he wouldn't, and Carl was just calmly, resignedly angsty about it all. And he is great. I love him.

And Urban Decay need to stop making such pretty products. Or else. I'll cry.

Most multi-region DVD players try not to tell you about their capabilities because they don't want to encourage you actually buying legal things and playing them legally. My dad's claimed not to be, but is, and the one before that we just found a code on the internet to tap in on the remote control.

Ahhh, that's much nicer than having to give it back. Thank you :). I'll make my dad fiddle with it and look things up. He's good at things like that. (What? He enjoys it!)

I will kill the world anyway! I will kill it for not being Connotations all the time, at least from now until October 8th! You read your fic, and I will watch my DVDs, and THEN we can destroy the world. Promise.

oh that is rubbish if it is not really multible region. DUDE.
I hate the world, so I think it probably isn't. We could destroy it Rachael, canw e can ewe??????? DESDTROY the world because itlet us down? After connotations though.

I think boots vouchers are safest if she has asked for something as vague as 'make up'. Dude.

[livejournal.com profile] slemslempike has reassured me that it might be, so I'll have to wait and ask my dad when he's less drunk. And if it is, it basically means I'll have to shamefully give it back, let dad return, then get one that is widely advertised as being multi-region. And equally silver and shiny. So yay. WE CAN DESTROY THE WORLD ANYWAY THOUGH. Can I wear a black coat and laugh a lot? We'll need a plan though. Or possibly a whole lot of snakes.

I am thinking that too, now. Especially what with the ONE LUNCHTIME. DURING WHICH I EAT LUNCH. Dude.

Try it. If it doesn't play Multi-region, go to the shop and ask if there's a trick to make it work. The people at the shop for mine printed one out in case the player didn't work.

Problem is, I don't have any discs that aren't Region 2 or 0. We've checked the box and the page dad ordered it from, and I'm going to call the customer helpline, and just want and see. But yeah, there's probably something I can do with it in any case :)
