Doctor Who: The Satan Pit

Toby a virgin! Squee!
That was quite good. Not quite as action-packed and tense as I thought it would be, at least by the end. No-one actually believed the Doctor was going to lose and die, did they? I was quite sad that Toby had to die. Clearly a better plan for the Beast would have been to possess Rose - what then, Doctor? WHAT THEN?
But then she wouldn't have a chance to die in battle, I suppose.A spoiler I don't entirely mind.
I was quite looking forward to the plotline where Toby the virgin used the Beast's knowledge to decipher the language andbetray his demon lover defeat the Scarily Powerful Demon that used him, despite being the "weakest link" of the crew. Which would clearly have been a more heartwarming and up-with-humans ending than 'the Doctor does everything and BELIEVES IN ROSE BEYOND COMPARE'. But he did get possessed a lot, which was nice. I choose to believe it was Toby most of the time, only randomly getting possessed, rather than the Beast acting all the time. And that there was a lot of psychic coercion going on that we never got to hear because the show was already too long. And lots of other things besides.
Didn't Toby-The-Beast used to have crazy telekinetic powers at one point? To the point that he could probably have stopped Rose? And how precisely did shooting the window not suck out all their air and explode them, except for Toby-Beast, who as we've seen can stand it? I'm asking too much logic of Dr Who, aren't I?
Anyway. It was quite good and I love Toby. Anyone who wants to write the AU where the Toby-Beast escaped and converted the universe will also have my undying love. Or, oooh, the one where the Doctor destroyed the prison after the rocket was out of the reach of the black hole, and DIED, but everyone on the rocket lived, including Toby-minus-Beast, and they all have to live on past it, especially Rose, who has to get a mortgage on her own. Or some Toby/Danny/Rose. Because that would be hot like burning.
These are all my thoughts. And that
nerdcakes lost her bet, hahaha!
Next week: Jackie seduced by Danny from Hustle! Omg!

Oh, oh that would have been quite brilliant, yes. And Billie's so very good at being posessed. But then Toby would not have been able to get possesed and that would surely make the episode a less wonderful place.

Date: 2006-06-10 08:25 pm (UTC)Toby Zed, the Virgin Space Archaeologist. Is there a reason I shouldn't love him?
Toby is GREAT at being the Beast. But Rose!Beast would have been rather awesome too, now I come to think about it. And Toby could have stood up to it while it tried to break him down, in a 'You thought I was weak BUT I AM STRONG' twist. And the Beast could have been all ::sudden respect::/'Baby, don't be that way!'.
AUing things is just a never ending black hole, isn't it?

Date: 2006-06-10 07:29 pm (UTC)Oh, yes. Especially if it had Rose/Captain Zack.

Date: 2006-06-10 08:30 pm (UTC)But Rose/Captain Zack would be BRILLIANT. She could be all grief-stricken, but understanding, and calm and supportive when Zack had his crises of confidence. And Danny would have to question everything he ever thought and did. And Toby would just need counselling FOREVER, and couldn't do archaeology anymore. And they'd all have no reason to stay together anymore, but would still feel the need to,and it would just be broken and beautiful and OT4-ish forever. Oh.
I think maybe I'll need at least these episodes on DVD, eventually.

Possibly its powers were weakened away from the planet, or from being spread out amongst Toby and the Ood? Maybe Toby was fighting the Beast from within? Or maybe you are looking for logic?

Date: 2006-06-10 08:35 pm (UTC)I'm not really that bothered about logic, I suppose. Though explanations of how they all lived would be nice. I'm probably just peeved about the general fact that Toby died. I like the thought that Toby was fighting the Beast though! Toby/The Beast interaction, that's what I'd like to see!
Toby/Jefferson! Awesomeness! Though the fact that Jefferson was quite willing to shoot him makes it a little problematic...

Date: 2006-06-10 09:24 pm (UTC)Then how about this - Toby-Beast was still alive when they went through the windscreen and flailing when they last showed him. So still not dead. The Impossible Planet showed the Beast could maintain Toby's body when it really shouldn't be able to - so he/they could survive floating in space. Plus the legend from the previous episode about the planet being spat out of the black hole in the past, so it could spit TB out. Or (despite the Doctor's thoughts) it could be a wormhole/transporting black hole and he could end up on the other side somewhere else. Or maybe the Doctor's manipulation of the gravity to save the spaceship could have had a wider effect than was expected and thus saving Toby/Beast that way.
Toby/The Beast interaction, that's what I'd like to see!
Yes! 'cause there is nothing saying how long Toby was haunted by it. :nudges you:

Not that they're deceased? Only a little. Jefferson totally didn't shoot him last episode despite having a lot of opportunity and many reasons to do so. And then he was quickly talked out of it by Rose. Possibly there was jealousy of Toby/TheBeast. And his wife never forgave him! OK, maybe not to running off on a near-suicidal mission with his boyfriend, but maybe so?
I may have thought about this slightly too much.

Oh. You tempt like the Beast tempts. Sadly, Toby's virginity has sort of Jossed my old plotbunnies about it subtly pulling him away from his convenience-sex partnership with Danny. But I could probably think of something else.
Not that they're deceased?
Deceased TOGETHER, omg!Yeah, but you can still write pre- fic. Jefferson would be ace at PROTECTING him though. Except for the part where he sort of didn't. I'm still highly amused by the thought that what his wife 'never forgave him for' was gaying it up with a archaeologist though.I may have thought about this slightly too much.
It's not too much until you're onto your fifth fic. Then you need a break and a snack before you get back to it ;)

Date: 2006-06-10 10:54 pm (UTC)And... well, if The Beast is the devil in any sense at all, then, fear not, Toby is not dead still possessed, but not dead (he was fine out in the black in the first ep, why wouldn't he survive the black hole, go to an alternative universe and hook up with Mickey?).

Date: 2006-06-11 09:14 am (UTC)I like the fact everyone is trying to comfort me that he is not dead. Saves me all the trouble of having to AU :)
Toby the Space Archaeologist would be a clear asset to anyone's team. But alternate Mickeyworld for the win! He would be slightly confused by the van, but eventually settle in and only cause some problems with his evil, hurrah.
I haven't commented to you for ages, which is terrible. How are you?
