This is genuinely one of my favourite songs, and Ruth Brown is one of my favourite people. I first discovered her during a bout of insomnia where I ended up watching a documentary on R&B, or maybe the history of black music, on tv, and she was just this old woman insisting that you can have your other famous singers I guess, but R&B stands for 'Ruth Brown', and she pointed to a brooch on her jacket with the initial R.B. on while she said it. And I just discovered she also released an album under that name. She was wild. Also this song is the first one I heard from her, on that documentary, and another one I really love:
I love that she's talking to her mother.
