I'd never heard of the books till I'd heard of the movie, so there'd be no immediate market for them. Of course, I didn't find much about the original books either...but no matter. There'll probably be a translation soon enough, especially if the movie does well. I'd only use them to spoil myself if I could find them, anyway ;)

*g* It seems that there are big differences between the books and the movie so I have no idea how much of a spoiler they actually are.

I read that the books themselve are very much cult in Russia. And the author doesn't even mind fanfic, he even used fanfic for his books. o.O No idea how true that is though.

Re fic: yay! ::bounces:: I've a couple of my own ideas, but...I don't know. I quite like it just being a film at the moment, before I start trying to interpret and 'get inside' things. And then there's the fact that it's so clearly open canon. Maybe I'll write. I'd like to see again first though.

Yes, the open canon is a problem for me as well. I don't know where to put the stories, pre or post movie. And well, if I try post movie I actually have to think up a solution for the mythology and the big story and that's kind of scary.

I probably have to watch it a third time to get my writing really started...
