No-one else probably cares about this as much as me. But it's REALLY bugging me. And in case anyone's wondering why I'm not around or commenting or whatever, this is the reason why. Essentially, my internet connection is continuing to start and stop and start and stop, which means that even when I am connected to the internet, nothing really loads properly, and sometimes doesn't load until the second or third try, and everything is going very slowly and painfully. It continued to sort of work when I had a Youtube video loaded, I think, but unfortunately I have to load the Youtube page in the first place, and then load a video, which I am not always successful at.
I brought it downstairs again today, since it worked the other day, because I could barely get online at all yesterday. As I have suspected for a while, though, my battery appears to be a bit broken too, telling me I have 2 hours till it goes off when I unplug it, and then telling me it's at critical battery power half an hour later. Although this might be because I have it set to some "Works best on mains power, not so well on battery" setting thing. Anyway, so I had to bring my power cord down and plug it in. But today, the internet connection was just as bad for me downstairs as it was upstairs. And then it just went off completely. And once again, my dad's internet on his computer is working fine, and my mum's wireless internet on her tablet is also working fine.
My dad asked if he could have a look at it, but the troubleshooters just told him, like they told me, that he needed an internet connection to download troubleshooters and look up help. So he got a spare cable out, and plugged my laptop into the broadband hub. And then it worked fine. He told me to look up the BT website, I did, but all the problems were about the broadband service as a whole failing, not just for one computer. So I called the free helpline, and noticed some downloadable thing my dad had told me about as I was calling, so I started downloading that. I got through to some guy, gave him our BT phone number - he had trouble pulling up our information, so I was just waiting in silence for a long time. Then he said he was just about ready to help me, and the call cut off. I thought he might call me back, since he had my BT phone number. But he didn't. Anyway, I decided to finish downloading the BT help pack thing and try using that before I called back. I got it all set up, and unplugged the cable so it could scan my computer or whatever while it was wireless - and now my internet is working perfectly fine, without being plugged in, in my dad's room.
So, I don't know now. I am going to check my email and stuff in my dad's room for a bit, and then try taking it upstairs to see if it still works. I just really don't understand what might be wrong with it. If it's the internet, why isn't it broken for the other computers? And if it's my laptop, why aren't any of the troubleshooters telling me there's a problem with my laptop? And why is it working while it's plugged in? And why is it working now?
But apparently there's no problem at all at the moment. So I'm going to get on with checking my LJ and whatnot. I guess.
