Well, that was...actually amazing. Except for the part with the elevator falling/not really dead scene. But apart from that. Oh my actual God. Regina and Emma working together/fighting. A story from fairyland that I didn't hate. That bit where Regina and Emma nearly kissed. Ruby mostly just lounging around in the background like she didn't care. It was wicked.
I have one question though: Are all of the fairies in fairyland black? And none of the human/main characters? Because that is a bit racist. It takes 'magical negro' to a new level, really.
Apart from that the only complaint I have really is that they didn't just let Henry die. I mean, maybe its time. I didn't hate Henry at first because I really thought he would have something to add to the proceedings. He was going to bring Emma back to the town, and he would have worked out which fairytale characters loads of people were, and he would be able to give her good town and fairytale background knowledge. And maybe he would care more about breaking the curse than just hating his mother. But that doesn't seem to be happening. And now Emma is here, and he doesn't seem to have any more knowledge to give. People are getting their memories back, sort of. Things are changing. Maybe the time has come for him to go. My actual favourite part of the whole episode was when Archie said he was worried about Henry, and Henry was like 'because you don't believe me', and Archie had to actually explain that no it was because they were trapped in a collapsing mine. Because Henry is STUPID. Oh, and also the part where they all pretended that Archie telling Henry the curse wasn't real was the problem, and not the fact that even before that Henry was planning to go down into an unstable abandoned mineshaft on his own with a flashlight and some chocolate bars. God, Archie! WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?
Other than that, the episode also seems to have cleared up something I have been wondering about, which is whether or not Regina actually remembers life before the curse. Because I really thought she'd lost her memory too, and had just been made mayor by the curse and was busy living that life. Mostly because I didn't understand why she wasn't more worried about Emma, outside of worrying that Henry preferred Emma to her. Or why she seemed constantly suprised by the things Henry was thinking up or accusing her of, if they were true and he wasn't supposed to know. I just remembered last week that she didn't know about Emma, having not read the end of the one book of 'true' fairytales in the world. And this week seems to have pretty much confirmed that yes, she DOES remember their old lives and know about the curse, if she's hiding and getting rid of bits of Snow White's coffin. So there we go.
The main question now, I guess, is how much does Rumplestiltskin/Mr Gold know or remember about the curse, to the point where he somehow got Emma's child for Regina to adopt? Hmm.
But yes. I really enjoyed that episode. Although the continued Disneyfication makes me groan a bit. It's bad enough when people start counting The Wizard Of Oz as a fairytale like Sleeping Beauty or Snow White - I think it's fair enough as a kind of fairytale, but I wouldn't put it in the same category as Sleeping Beauty or Snow White. But Pongo? 101 Dalmations? Seriously? Is Cruella Deville wandering around somewhere? Or is Pongo cursed to forever be away from his Dalmation lover? Or did that Dalmation coat ACTUALLY get made in Cursetown? Dear oh dear.
