Things that aren't Emmerdale and thus are a bit more cheerful:
Tomorrow I have to call the Jobcentre to reschedule an appointment, call the doctor's to reschedule another appointment, and I'd like to tidy up my incredibly messy bedroom a bit, if I can. We'll see.
- It's been years since I found it, and yet Folksongs Are Your Friends is still one of the funniest things on the internet for me.
- New Bad Machinery story, woo! Sometimes I think about if I ever did the Slashies again, who would I have for each category. I properly couldn't think of anyone for Best Dressed except maybe Cheryl from Hollyoaks. How I ever forgot Lottie, I will never know.
- The other week I came downstairs to get something just as my parents were watching the end of a film they had taped on the Sky box. It involved Dougray Scott being a bit of a psycho and chasing a young man all over his house. They told me that was basically the plot of the film, except in Edinburgh generally, not just Dougray Scott's house. I was intrigued. Chase films/pairings are a bit of a kink of mine, and Dougray Scott was gaying it up, as far as I could see. So I bought the DVD quite cheaply from Play.com and watched it all this week. It is called New Town Killers. And it's really quite gay. I very much enjoyed it at any rate. Alistair/Sean, dudes. Or Alistair/Jamie. Or Jamie/Sean. Whatever.
- And I watched Strictly. Oh, Patsy. Of the two of them, I would have prefered her to stay rather than Gavin. But she had been in the bottom two before, suggesting she wasn't as popular as Gavin, so it wasn't completely unexpected. But even so.
From Saturday's show: I really liked Patsy's Argentine Tango, even though I could see it was a bit softer and less dramatic than other people's tangos have been. And I actually liked Gavin's jive. Some bits were clearly weird, but some bits were quite good - which is quite usual for his dances, I guess. It might be because I really like that song, and I really liked Katya's dress, so I had that to focus on when I wasn't watching the dancing. Although I thought that because I like the song so much it would put me off even more if the dance wasn't very good. But who knows. But I did quite like it. But obviously the judges didn't.
I also really liked Matt's dance, although it was a little confusing. I don't know what Len was talking about the other week, about being angry about Kara's American Smooth because he was assuming it was a Foxtrot, when it was clearly a Paso Doble. Last year Erin did an American Smooth version of a Viennese Waltz, and the year before, I can't remember what dance he was doing, but Vincent was talking about choreographing an American Smooth, and saying it didn't have to be a Foxtrot, that was just traditional, but you could do an American Smooth version of anything as long as you had the right percentage in hold and out of hold. So I don't know what Len was talking about, they didn't mention any of it the other times. But Matt's was a little confusing because I couldn't work out what dance it was supposed to be. I think know it started off being the Viennese Waltz, and ended up being a Rumba. But I liked it, even though it ended up being a bit jumpy in places. But not as jumpy as Scott's - I do not know how Alisha and Bruno gave him 9s for that. But whatever. We'll see if he recovers and is less tired next week.
I liked most of the dances, I think. I liked Kara's jive, even though it was a lot slower than most of the jives you see, which I assume might have been to do with Artem being ill for most of the week. And I liked Pamela's Charleston, even if her expression does keep distracting me, and I am never sure what to look for in a Charleston that makes it a 'good Charleston', if you know what I mean. Ann and Anton's Rumba was theatrical enough to make it sort of enjoyable to watch, and she did a few of the steps I guess. I am pretty ready for them to go, to be honest, but if the rest of the audience wants them in... Whatever.
Oh Patsy :( Still, it's film week next week. Will we see anything as good as Kieron Richardson doing a skating routine to the Pink Panther this year on Dancing On Ice? It's hard to believe, but maybe. - I have been watching Misfits! So the Superhoodie is Simon from the future. I had guessed it would be their new probation worker, since he was sticking around a bit longer than their other probation workers, and is a pretty good actor, and you could tell the superhoodie was a white guy from what you saw of his hands. I wasn't sure, as I couldn't tell if the superhoodie was tall enough to be him though. But no, it's Simon. And Simon and Alisha - that came out of nowhere for me, and seemed massively plausible almost straight away. A testament to how good the writing and acting is, I guess.
I am not sure about having Simon be an out-and-out hero though, frankly. He did quite a lot of weird stuff last series, going invisible and getting up close to the girls, nearly sexually assaulting Kelly in the flashback, acting a bit psycho when he was chasing down the female probation officer. To have him just be a nice guy now - to have Alisha thanking him for killing that woman - seems to be kind of ignoring that. But then again, Simon said a lot of things happen between now and when he becomes future!Simon. And we only have his sort-of word that he's coming back to do good things. If the story really is just that he and Alisha fell in love, something happened to her and she died, and he's back to try to make sure that doesn't happen, even if it screws up the timeline or possibly screws up things for everyone else - it would be in-keeping with his previous characterisation as well. If not, it would be nice if they dealt with his weird, slightly odd side, at least. We'll see, I guess.
And regarding Nathan and Kelly - I'm not sure about that, I get the feeling they might be going for a double-bluff. Like Nathan said, that's a lot of build up for them to just not get together. I'm not against it if they don't, even though I love Kelly/Nathan, I'd be interested to see them do that, actually. I just wouldn't be suprised if a bit further down the line, when Nathan's not trying so hard, and maybe Kelly's a bit more confident in herself and in them, they don't end up getting together. A bit like with Nathan's power last year - he didn't seem to have one, we were all interested (I guess) to see if he actually did and what it was, it looked like he didn't have one after all, then at the end of the series he did get one. I'm not saying I think they will do that, necessarily. But I'm not convinced they won't, either.
Yay, Misfits! - It snowed here Friday and today, hurrah! Although me not having to go out in it might be making me happier about it than I otherwise would be.
