girlofprey: (Emmerdale Nathan Pretty Ones Always Insa)

So, these are my current issues with the internet: it's broken in my bedroom again. I don't know how, my network status thing claims that my wireless attachment thing is connected to the modem, but the modem is not connected to the internet. But when I use my dad's computer, which uses the same modem, it is connected to the internet. This happened on Monday night, just kind of suddenly, and it hasn't fixed itself anytime I've switched my laptop off and then on again, or when I've unplugged the wireless attachment and plugged it back in again. So I don't know. And then last night when I was on my dad's computer, checking my flist for the first time all day (up till about 2am) and about to make a post, we had a sudden powercut. So that plan went out of the window until today (and my nephew is coming over in about half an hour to an hour).

But anyway. The post I was pretty much going to make was:

On last night's Emmerdale:

Declan: You look nice.
Nathan: Are you flirting?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I LOVE THEM. EVEN THOUGH I KNOW WHAT DECLAN IS DOING AND OH GOD. And Nathan did look nice, and it wasn't weird like the idea Declan might be gay was a joke or an insult, it was just kind of teasing and lovely and OH GOD.

Other scenes of note:

  • Nathan looking really tired and worn out in front of a laptop.

  • Is it just me, or was he sort of trying to defend Alicia's honour a bit in the Woolpack? I know Ryan was sort of insulting both of them, but Nathan seemed a bit more 'watch your mouth' than 'fuck off'. I don't know, I may need to watch that again. He wasn't great to her when she was walking away from him. I don't know.

  • In the soap magazines, they said that Ryan broke Nathan's car window because Nathan got a deal and couldn't help boasting in the Woolpack, and he didn't boast, he came in to tell Maisie, and then Alicia out of the blue wanted to have a drink with him and flirt with him, and it was sort of the first time in months someone who wasn't involved in his awful family situation or who didn't hate him had spoken to him, so he had a drink with her, and had a bit of a laugh, and was pretty much a dick to Ryan later, I totally understand why Ryan broke his windows but oh God. Why must the soap magazines paint him so blackly? When will I learn to ignore some of the things they say? Oh God.

  • Declan deciding that, as I mentioned before, Nathan looking tired and worn out in front of a laptop was the perfect time to walk right up to him and shout in his ear about how today was the perfect day to come to his senses.

  • "How does 2.75 sound?"
"Like a load of random numbers."

  • Ryan, looking angry, was sitting at a table in the Woolpack with Andy, and then Rhona came over and joined them for a bit. I've been quite irritated with Rhona lately, and for a moment it was like ALL MY HATE in Emmerdale was briefly focused in one place. It was only lacking Cain sitting somewhere looking smug.

  • It was like the exact opposite of a scene a few weeks ago when I was watching it and thought something seemed a bit odd about it, and then realised I was watching a scene containing only female characters, five of them, when they weren't gathered together for a women-oriented thing or to discuss the male characters. Laurel was in the cafe, Betty and Pearl were sat at a table in there, Brenda was serving, and Viv popped in briefly from the shop. It was brilliant. I love Emmerdale sometimes.

  • Also, is it just me, or has Ryan started wearing Nathan's jacket? The one with the zip around the back of the neck? He's definitely wearing a black jacket with a zip around the neck, and Nathan's not wearing it anymore. I'm not entirely sure what that means, if it is true. He's the new Nathan? HE HAS A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE HE CAN START PRETENDING TO BE THAT. A LONG LONG WAY.

I'm not really sure how to feel about Emmerdale at the moment. I know Nathan's leaving soon, and in a way I'm kind of glad they decided to give us back some of the old Nathan before he goes. But he's just stopped covering up his dad's murder to keep his mum out of prison, and been kidnapped and tortured, and had his mum actually go to prison, and they don't seem to have really dealt with that. And things are going to get really bad for him before he leaves, I know they are, the soap magazines are all saying it. And even Lyndon Ogbourne is saying in interviews that Nathan is a baddie and needs to get his comeuppance, and in fairness he deserves to go to jail for some of the things he's done and it sounds like he isn't going to, but oh God, he's already been through so much. And so I think 'okay, they're playing him as a baddie, they're just going to make it really clear that he deserves to be punished for some of the things he's done, ignoring some of the emotional stuff they did with him before'. But then we get scenes like him promising to take care of Maisie and Will and looking really tired in front of a computer, and I just don't know what to think. HOW CAN THEY WANT TO PUNISH HIM SO MUCH WHEN THEY ARE MAKING IT CLEAR THAT HE IS ALREADY HAVING A REALLY HARD TIME? Lyndon Ogbourne did say that before Nathan goes we're going to see him at his 'most honest, most vulnerable' - which considering what we've seen of him before sounds AWFUL - so maybe they're leading up to that. I don't know. IT SOUNDS AWFUL, whatever it is. God.

And I love Nathan/Declan, but Declan is just being SUCH a prat at the moment, and in a way it's nice because he seems to really want to get under Nathan's skin, but on the other hand it sort of feels like we're meant to agree with Declan that Nathan is just being a dick and not thinking of Maisie and Will by taking Declan's first offer, which he claims is reasonable. But Nathan knows the estate is worth more than that, and we saw Declan saying to Jai and Nikhil "why should I get out before I've won?", so how can we believe that either? And Nathan does seem to be doing it for Maisie and Will, saying he's not going to let anyone undervalue them. And I don't know. It's so hard to figure out Emmerdale at the moment. And who are the true dicks. Nathan is one obviously. But are the others meant to be as well, or even worse? It's hard to tell.

And now my nephew is here, so I have to go.
