girlofpreyDeclan was talking with Faye about the money she and her son are going to get from Mark's will, she said Ryan was adamant he didn't want anything. Declan said 'Not even for the pleasure of watching Nathan squirm?'. Then Faye asked him if he'd seen Nathan yet, and he said no, he'd 'not yet had the pleasure'. That was twice in about as many minutes he used the word 'pleasure' in conjunction with Nathan. Freudian slip? I think so.
Then he went to see Nathan, but Nathan was taking Will out for the day while Maisie visited Ryan in prison, and there were these big ridiculous shots of Declan's car driving up, and Nathan noticing but kind of trying to ignore it. But Declan got out, and said they needed to talk. Nathan said he couldn't, because he was taking Will out for the day, and he had bigger things to worry about than Declan. Nathan said he was sorry, but Will came first. Declan said that was very commendable, and something about how his mother would be proud of him, oh God. Then he said he owed Nathan an apology, and Nathan just looked at him with his bruised, cut face. Declan said he'd been wrong about Nathan, and he was sorry, and that he did feel bad about it. And I can't believe that when people, especially Declan, say nice or even vaguely pleasant things to Nathan, he often just looks at them like he wants to believe them, but he doesn't really know what someone being sincerely nice to him sounds like, so he can't for definite. I think Nathan said he couldn't stay there anyway, and Declan said they did need to talk though, about 'what your future entails. About where you go from here'. It is sounded so slightly fatherly and slightly caring, but was also obviously just a bit slightly manipulative that I couldn't really believe it.
And then there was a scene with Declan, Jai and Nikhil in the pub, where they were asking about what he was going to do about owning the controlling part of Home Farm Estate, and surely he was going to get out now, and he said 'what, just when things are getting interesting?". They possibly said something about how he was a glutton for punishment and never did give up, possibly, and he said 'why give up before you've won?'. And oh God, now I just genuinely do not know if everything he said to Nathan was 100% manipulative, and I can't exactly blame him, but Nathan's mum just went to jail, and he was just beaten up by his sister, and can't he leave him alone, can't they all leave him alone, just for a bit? Oh my God.
Anyway, later on Nathan came running out of Home Farm because his car alarm was going off, and nothing was happening with the car, so he switched it off, and then Declan appeared grinning behind him. Nathan started shouting, was he the one that set that off, and Declan said 'Well, it got your attention'. Then he said they needed to talk again, they needed to talk about money. He said that with their father's money now being split five ways, between Nathan, Maisie, Will, Ryan and Faye, that meant that Nathan wouldn't have as much as he had before, and it wouldn't last him very long, with the way he lived. I was almost expecting him to suggest Nathan turn to high-class prostitution, possibly with him having only one, particular client. But no, he said he had a way for Nathan to get a lot more cash, quickly. That caught Nathan's attention, obviously. Declan said he wanted to own Home Farm Estate, and he wanted Nathan to persuade Natasha to sell her shares to him, and if he did Declan would give him the cash. Nathan asked why he thought his mother would ever want to sell her shares to him, and Declan said that was where Nathan's considerable powers of persuasion came into it. He said Nathan should think about it but decide soon, because it was a limited time offer, and after that Nathan was on his own. AND OH GOD, NATHAN IS ALREADY BASICALLY ON HIS OWN, HE'S ONLY GOING TO BE MORE ON HIS OWN AFTER DECLAN DECIDES THE DEAL IS NO LONGER SOMETHING HE'S GOING TO OFFER, IF INDEED HE DOES THAT. But oh God, he basically wants in on Nathan's amazing powers of 'persuasion'/getting what he decides to get. He basically wants Nathan to work for him, he is offering Nathan money in return for Nathan doing/getting something done for him. And it is kind of brilliant, but also kind of awful, and he is just using Nathan, offering him a deal as well obviously, but also probably just using him, and so many people have been using Nathan, and oh God, oh God, oh God.

She explained that Natasha had told her that she'd done everything, she'd framed Ryan, and that Nathan had nothing to do with it. Ryan didn't really believe this, and couldn't believe Maisie and Will had moved back in with Nathan. Maisie said that she believed Natasha, and insisted that Nathan hadn't known either about Natasha framing Ryan or that Natasha had killed their father until just before the court case when it was too late to do anything about it, which oh God, doesn't even make any sense. She knows Cain was blackmailing Nathan and Natasha before Mark's body was even found, and Natasha even said that she'd forced Nathan to take the blame for the flowers Cain sent. Unless she said she just did that to stop Maisie worrying, and that Cain tried to blackmail Nathan but Natasha took over because she knew what was actually going on. Otherwise, Nathan must have known that Natasha was the real killer, and therefore that Ryan was innocent, or that Natasha was framing Ryan, from the moment Ryan was arrested. And oh God, it is like the worst cover story ever. Ryan, as I've said, refused to believe it, and also said he couldn't believe Nathan gave a damn about either Will or Maisie. It's a shame that even when people know Nathan a bit better than other people, they still don't really get that much about him. Oh God.
I want Nathan to have a happy ending. But I do not think he will get one. In any way. The stuff that's happening now with Declan actually feeds in pretty well to some dark!Declan Nathan/Declan plotbunnies I've had, post-reveal, where Declan is so pissed off about being tricked by both Natasha and Nathan, he decides to 'get'/mindfuck Nathan just to make himself feel better, and a bit more in control of everything again. OR, where he is so pissed off about being tricked specifically by Natasha, who he really properly cared about, he decides to get revenge by taking something she cares about and her best asset, her "golden boy", off her. Which let's face it, would probably be pretty easy with Nathan in his current state, if you knew what to say to him, which even with Declan's famous inability to understand him very much, would probably still be pretty easy to figure out. OR, the one where Declan is on some level so turned on by Nathan's massive massive loyalty and lack of morals in the face of that loyalty, he just decides he has to have him for himself. Most of these involve Declan just being nice to Nathan and just acting as much like Natasha - or like a slightly nicer version of Natasha - as he possibly can, until Nathan just gives in out of a sheer general inability to understand any other situation/relationship than that one. And the possibility of some actual affection from pretty much anyone at all. I cannot say I picture Nathan having a very good life in any of those situations though.
But mostly I just want lovely, comforting fic where people are just nice to Nathan, and specifically Declan. I want fic where people just look at Nathan, at the moment, and just throw a blanket round his shoulders and make him a cup of tea, because he SO OBVIOUSLY NEEDS IT. I want all the fic in the world, I want proper big-fandom style fic, I have sort of been going through all the fic cliches in the past few weeks/months and thinking of Nathan/Declan versions of them. I want Nathan/Declan werewolf AUs, and vampire AUs (I loved the vampire fic I came up with in my head - it basically involved Declan being some kind of weird vampire? Who could go out in daylight and didn't need to drink human blood. But pre-reveal he just gets so furious with Nathan that he decides to go and bite him one night, partly because he's angry and partly because there will then be a telepathy thing and he can get at the actual truth, but then he finds out the actual truth, and that Nathan wasn't the killer, and even though Nathan is clearly fucked up and was still framing Ryan, Declan feels really guilty about biting him, and bad for him, and the next day just ends up - through the mental link they now have - subtly pushing him to sleep in, and to have a decent meal when he gets up, and to get enough rest to recover from being bitten, and then tries to get on with the business of revealing Natasha's guilt, but also in trying to help Nathan, because oh God he's so fucked up. And people secretly pushing Nathan to take care of himself IS SORT OF ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS EVER).
I want Nathan/Declan mpreg, and slave AUs, and caught out in the woods together cavefic, and historical AUs, and epic fic about ignoring everything that's clearly about to happen in canon where Nathan and Declan keep working together, much to their sort of mutual annoyance, but eventual sort of benefit. I want fic about how Declan thinks about how Nathan is like his mum, but not like his mum, and how that is brilliant but awful at the same time. I want fic about all the awkward times they have when they go away to conferences together, and sometimes they get double-booked so have to share a twin room, and avoid watching each other get dressed and undressed, and coming back from the bar a bit tipsy, and waking up in the morning and seeing each other asleep. And maybe the heating breaks, THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE HOTEL, and everyone who can gets a room at another hotel, so they have to stay in their twin room, and it is freezing, and Declan eventually just suggests, look, the beds are big, why don't we just get in one of them and bring the duvet from the other bed with us, and then at least we'll have double covers? And Nathan resists, and complains, but eventually agrees and gets in the bed with Declan, but stays FAR AWAY FROM HIM. But then Declan wakes up in the night, cold, and Nathan is still asleep, curled up, and Declan thinks 'screw it', and just moves over to him, right next to him, carefully, so he can share his body heat. But Nathan, still asleep, sort of feels him there and pushes back against him, because oh God, warmth. And then Declan is like 'Oh fuck!', but it is just so much warmer, and he doesn't want to wake Nathan, and it's so weird to have Nathan there, right next to him, all relaxed and not snarling and hating him, and maybe it will be fine, so he just lies there, with Nathan pressed up against him, and lets himself fall asleep. And the next morning he wakes up and Nathan's already out of bed, and he doesn't say anything, but he won't look Declan in the eye, and is just really tense all day, and maybe the next night, until they can get back to Home Farm. And they just have to work it out there.
I want lots of hurt/comfort fic, although I cannot imagine what hurt a fic could engineer that is really greater than what Nathan has already been through, or what comfort Declan could actually provide if that happened. Fics where Nathan somehow makes sure he survives in prison, and gets out when his time's up, and tracks down Natasha and Maisie and Will and possibly Declan if he decided to stay with Natasha, and Nathan just basically wants to kill Natasha, and the truth all comes out, and Nathan is just almost completely broken, and everyone is like 'Oh my God Nathan, oh my God'. I want fic where he breaks out before his time is up, because he can't take it anymore, and goes after Natasha basically to kill her, and the truth comes out, and everyone is like 'Oh my God Nathan, oh my God'. I want fic where Nathan goes to prison for Mark's murder and Declan realises there is still something amiss, and starts to suspect Nathan didn't actually do it, and goes to prison to see him, and has to kind of deal with the state he's in and what he's like now, and just go to see, but also try to work to free him, with Nathan even questioning why he's doing it, or whether he really wants to do it if he loves Natasha so much, and even whether it's for the best, whether Maisie and Will aren't better off thinking he killed their dad than knowing their mum did. And then Declan gets him out, and again has to kind of deal with him, and what happened to him in prison (a lot of rape, is my opinion, really), and try to help him have a life again, and is that even possible, and is that even possible when your own mum screwed you over so badly, and maybe Declan would try to fix it by being nice to him, and maybe he would try to fix it with comfort/desperate sex, and maybe Nathan wouldn't want him to touch him, or maybe he wouldn't be able to stand Declan to touch him even if he really wanted it, and oh God, oh God, oh God.
I want Nathan/Declan fic where, now, post-reveal, Declan just looks at Nathan, and really sees him, and goes to a doctor to find out what kind of medication would be appropriate to give someone who's just been through severe mental trauma, and gets ahold of it, and just casually starts drugging Nathan when he makes him tea or whatever, just to make him rest and be calm when he clearly needs it, and is unlikely to actually seek any sort of help himself. And making sure he gets to bed alright of a night, while he's under sedation, obviously. And just taking care of him, oh God, taking care of the business and telling Nathan he doesn't need to worry about it, how badly I want someone to tell Nathan he doesn't need to worry about things. Oh God Nathan.
I can't believe fandom ignores soaps all the time. Except I can totally understand it, because some of it is a bit rubbish, and there is so much canon, and it is slightly exhausting keeping up with all of it, and it changes almost every day. But I cannot in any way understand it, because sometimes SOAPS ARE AMAZING. I love Nathan/Declan. And Tony/Maria. And David/Gary.

Shall I knock on the door, given that I am going to offer to buy his home? No, I'll scare him by setting off his car alarm, which is something Cain would probably do!'

Although I do want to write a LOT of fic with Declan looking after Nathan, so I shall work on that, haha.

I saw an episode earlier this year, and then went out to see Knight and Day, and wanted an AU where Nathan was the crazy, super-talented spy who ends up having to kidnap decent businessman Declan, and they end up falling in love. I saw The Other Guys (one of many times), and wanted an AU where Nathan and Declan were mismatched cops. I watched a bit of gymnastics, and wanted a gymnastics AU (where Nathan was a coach, and Declan was an organiser or something, I don't really picture either of them as gymnasts really). I AM NOT ASKING YOU TO WRITE ME THESE FICS, OBVIOUSLY. But Nathan/Declan kind of takes over my head a bit sometimes. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.
It was a dick move really, although I kind of love it for being a dick move. It's like hair-pulling, or like he's really getting into the kind of game-playing Nathan tends to specialise in. But no, his timing could have been better. I'm handwaving a little bit of his timing and Nathan's recovery by assuming the writers are speeding it up because Nathan's going soon. I was totally thinking "Right, you've just apologised to him. Have you considered, maybe, making it up to him a little by not massively pushing him on this just at the moment?". But clearly he hadn't. On a sort of related note, did you see the scene tonight with Cain and Maisie? Argh!
Although I do want to write a LOT of fic with Declan looking after Nathan,
I wish that someone would look after him! It doesn't look like the show is going to give us that. Also, I LOVE YOU. Clearly.

Yeah, I hadn't thought that they might have skipped ahead a bit. Still, though, it's amazing how much he claims to hate Nathan but goes out of his way to get a reaction *g*.
I really need to get on that fic before he's left and it's too late.
