girlofprey: (Doctor Who Luke Rattigan Slut Queen)
[personal profile] girlofprey
I am at my parents' for Easter. Today we all went to Selby Game Fair with my nephew. We saw many, many dogs (it was not a place for [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes), ducks, geese, turkeys, quails, cockerels, ferrets, owls, horses, falcons, hawks , and probably a few other animals. I have a glass plum. And also, t-shirts relating to: yo. [livejournal.com profile] tiniago may have to think up a new series.

Also, I watched the new Doctor Who on today. In fairness, I only half watched it, because my nephew was here and we were rushing a bit to try and get him back home so mum and I could go to the cinema. And I did miss the beginning, which probably provided the most information about Michelle Ryan's character. But after the rather massive misogyny (in my opinion) of the Christmas episode, I actually sort of enjoyed it. Even if the aliens that pretty much solved their problem apparently had to die (although I didn't see that part, I'm sort of just assuming it happened). A young black man was very-ish qualified at mechanics for the second time in the series. And had a girlfriend who apparently wasn't that into him, for the second time in the series. The two young men who were involved in the time-space situation were suggested for Unit membership and none of the older men and women. Those were problems. But still, I didn't entirely hate it like I have hated other episodes.

HOWEVER - consider, if you will, how much better it would have been if instead of that Lee Evans!scientist working with Unit, it had been Luke Rattigan, not having been killed in the fight with the Sontaarans, mostly getting over his attempt to help destroy Earth that time, and trying to be a bit more helpful to the human race instead. He would have been all "Doctor? Yes, it's me again". And the Doctor would have been all "Do (something sciency) to the wormhole)" and Luke would have been like, "Yes I'm already doing that". And that scene where the Unit woman wanted to close the wormhole, even if it meant trapping and essentially killing the Doctor, would have been SO MUCH BETTER if it had been Luke, and he'd been all "No - I understand he's a jerk, but he is actually quite useful, and we do actually need him a bit. You remember how I would totally have killed all you guys that one time if it wasn't for him?" And just better.

Time until I get over Luke Rattigan dying, or Toby De Silva leaving Casualty: Not any time soon.
