I love Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. So very. And I love Robert Downey Jr. And yesterday, I went to see Iron Man. I think I might go to previews all the time, or whenever they're on. It was cheaper, there were no adverts, and they showed some trailers from some GREAT-looking movies, up on the big screen. Anyway. I can't believe I enjoyed a film in which weapons are okay so long as the Americans have them and the people from Afghanistan are either evil or victims, quite so much. It's sort of shaming. But what Iron Man did give me was Robert Downey Jr building things (inventor!kink! Tony Stark/Violet Baudelaire Goggles!OTP), Robert Downey Jr in a vest, and a pairing that is both hero/villain ish AND father-son ish, and hot wrong father-son ish. This is where the spoilers begin.

I had a feeling that Obadiah was going to be evil. He was bald with a beard, after all. And there was the whole thing of him running the company until Tony turned 21, at which point he took over. But then there were calls in bed, and arms around shoulders, and Obadiah probably having comforted Tony when his parents died, and being business partners with him since he was 21, and I was all OH, DUDE. And then it turned out he was actually evil, and I sort of preferred it when Obadiah was sort of a laid-back, affectionate father-figure who was probably shagging Tony for some years, but it was still GREAT. Because then he was evil. Even if he did try to have Tony killed. Still. GREAT.

"It's a shame the government didn't approve this. Temporary paralysis has so many possible applications."

SO MANY POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS. It was almost as good as drugging. Dude. Hopefully there will be fic.

Other than that, I thought it was a good film. It was well put-together and acted, and not cheesy or stilted like some comic book movies are. Gwyneth Paltrow also didn't annoy me, I quite liked Pepper Potts, even if she didn't particularly catch my attention. I liked the reporter better, who was both slutty and had a social conscience, and who I at first thought was Shannon from Lost. It wasn't. It was Brooke from Popular. I quite liked her. But I just couldn't get into the overall thing of America Is Great, It's Only When We Start Selling To Other Countries Things Go Wrong. Although I suppose Obadiah the American wasn't great. And there was the implication he was going to use the suit to put power back in the "correct", American hands, and that that was a bad thing. But still. Hmm. I liked Tony. I love that they gave him a Cave Boyfriend. I love that they gave him a Military Liaison Boyfriend. I love that he was a bit in love with his house. Tony/Obadiah forever.
