Nov. 16th, 2017 09:51 pmThe woman from Tuesday got a permanent space. The thing is, she had a car accident a while ago just outside of work, and she was saying that her injuries from that and the psychological impact it had had on her meant she ought to have a space - but she had literally been pushing and mildly harassing all of us who sit on reception to give her spaces long before that, I remember vividly the first time she did it to me when I'd just started, and literally the day before her accident she came to me begging for a space, because I'd given her one the day before when there was one free, and 'she'd gotten in a real mess, she hadn't paid for a whole day's parking, she assumed there'd be one for her that afternoon, wasn't there anything I could do for her?'. And when I told her no, instead of taking that for an answer, she pointed at the contractor spaces outside that we save for plumbers and emergency electricians and people doing building maintenance, things like that, spaces that she knows we never give out and aren't supposed to give out, and said "what about one of them?", and looked at me with absolutely no shame in her face whatsoever. And I relented and gave her one, for half an hour, because oh my god. And then the next day she had her car accident, and I'm pretty sure it's because she was going over to a nearby car park to move her car over to our building the minute it moved over to afternoon parking, when anyone can park wherever they want - which she didn't know about the day before.
So I feel like a terrible person, obviously, but also I felt like I ought to tell our new Head of Facilities about this when the woman first came asking for a parking space, and about times when other receptionists had told me she'd literally lied to their faces about whether she was allowed to park in the car park or not, and that I wanted to be very much left out of any decision to give her a parking space or not. But she won the damn lottery, and this morning they all had some sort of meeting with her and her boss and HR and the Head of Facilities, and then said Head of Facilities emailed me asking 'do we have any spaces for next week?', at that kind of notice, but she didn't even tell me it was for this woman, it was up to this woman to come to the desk - again - and ask me if I'd spoken to the Head of Facilities, well there was a meeting this morning, it had been decided she could have a permanent space now, could I email her to let her know how that was going to work from now on, she was very suprised the Head of Facilities hadn't spoken to me already.
I know, she had a car accident and I'm a terrible person. But it's still bullshit.
Because we didn't have a parking space for her next week - obviously, Head of Fac. knows I fill up all the spaces on the Wednesday beforehand - she had to have the disabled bay. Because of that, I had to email another employee who recently had knee surgery who I'd half-promised the space to and who is working a late shift next week, and tell him he couldn't have it. He then decided to take up the fact of why he and his team hadn't been given spaces for their late shifts next week, when other people he knew had been given them for their late shifts, who were these other people who were given spaces rather than him, he really felt like teams like his should be prioritised, he wanted to speak to the Head of Fac. about it.
But at least I don't have to deal with This Woman harassing me for parking spaces anymore. Because she already has them.
Other than that it was great.
