Went to see DMC again with my parents again last night. I didn't realise that meant I wouldn't have time for ANYTHING ELSE EVER. Still. They paid and it was great.

I think it is better the second time around. When you know where everything's going and aren't distracted by wild anticipation and how it's not all quite going to your plan. For me, anyway. Also, detail and stuff. Like woah.

Although with Norrington - well, in the first film I believed he was washed up, but then thought he'd been with Beckett all along, and thus has been rather wonderfully clever and deceptive. But having watched it again (with this in mind), I realise actually he probably didn't know about Beckett until Elizabeth and Jack said so, and made his plans somewhat on the spot. So now I might need to go see it again! (Just to actually have one viewing where I know what's going on. And can approve accordingly.)

Anyway. The film. I had better thoughts last night. I hate work. It gets in the way, and forces you to think new things just to stop the boredom. Like how the Leviathan could totally kick the Kraken's ass, and perhaps Elizabeth and Will and everyone should try that in the next film.

(ETA: And hang on a minute, isn't that bit from the Book of Job in the second article what Jones says when they call the kraken for the Pearl? Oh, they had better not be stealing my monster and turning it into a tentacle thing. Dude!)

Anyway, tangent aside - these were my main thoughts:

  • Tia Dalma! Tia Dalma gave Jack the compass, or 'bartered it' to him. Apologies if everyone else knew this, but omg, how cool? I'd liked to have seen that exchange. Oh. She's like a sexy voodoo fairy godmother. And Jack would be nothing without her. Damn straight.

  • There were shiny boots in her cabin when they first went, as I thought. Barbossa was so there. And in her bed, no less! Why? Because he was her undead pirate lover, is why. I love my pairings.

  • Elizabeth and Pintel and Ragetti! They fought together ('sword!'), and then P&R saved her from the Kraken, and I had somehow forgotten how great it was. THEY SHOULD ALL GO INTO BUSINESS TOGETHER! I don't know what doing. Probably fighting crime, since that's how far my imagination seems to extend these days. But eeeee, LOVE! I hope they are together more in the third film.

  • The clockwork musical locket I apparently didn't see the first time around? Is VERY PRETTY.

  • As is Cutler Beckett, when you're not distracted wondering what's he's up to. Rrrowr.

  • And if Norrington wasn't in his pay all along, then that bit of sword play/fondling was completely spontaneous. Which is Quite Wonderful.

  • Norrington. I don't have new things to say about Norrington, except that you would totally take him along to dig up your chest JUST TO LOOK AT HIM. And he looks hilarious in mud. And I like 'oh, dear'. But not half as much as 'By your leave, Mr Turner', and the little bow, and eeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I nearly screamed. I nearly do every time I think about it. Oh. Love.

  • I love Norrington.

  • Ahem. Anyway. Davy Jones - I can't think of anyone more worthy of the quote "Some say he's half man, half fish. Others say it's more of a 70/30 split. Whatever the percentage, he's one fishy bastard." Besides Old Gregg himself, of course.

  • I may have also noticed/made up an explanation for Jack's problems with the compass. Clearly he knows Davy Jones will soon be after him at the start of the film, hence hunting for the key. So he wanted the key, but he also wanted to get away from Davy Jones...who has the key. Which would surely cause the compass problems? It doesn't explain the rest of the film, of course - but maybe after that debacle and 'Jack doesn't know what he wants', the seed of doubt was planted and he lost his focus a bit. Which is an awfully simplistic way of hoping for the old, completely unprogressing Jack back in Film 3, but - I don't care. IT IS MY THEORY, and I stick to it. Yay.

  • Elizabeth. Watching it again, her grabbing Jack's leg at the end is actually quite a - childish gesture. Which is odd, but considering how much older he is than her, and that he keeps rescuing her hide with his experience, and how in love with Will she is, perhaps makes sense. Maybe it's not so much a Jack vs. Will thing as a Jack vs. Swann thing - in the same way she never noticed how great Norrington was focusing on Will, maybe she never notices how great her dad is for focusing on Jack/pirates (also, of course, this makes Jack Swann. And we all know how much he likes Norrington).

Hmm. The her kissing Jack part at the end makes this a bit weird, though.

Though I wouldn't put it past her to sweet talk her father into any number of dangerous situations...

I'd also talk about Will and how he's actually less mad at the beginning - though I still don't get why he's all 'was that an act of compassion?' when...he just..explained...how it was. But I'm still mostly in love with [livejournal.com profile] tiniago's office! Will. I amused myself imagining if he was in a meeting with a rival company. A rival box-making company. Oh. The eyes of narrow.

Anyway. Bottom line, it's all a bit more 'alive' in my head from the second time around, which is nice. Roll on Film 3, is my main feeling. And fic in the meantime.

Next films: I'm trying to decide if it's actually worth it going to see Stormbreaker just because Damien Lewis is a possibly evil secret agent in it. Probably not, and yet also probably yes. Anyway. They showed trailers for both My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Nacho Libre as well last night. So I have definite Options.

Damien Lewis, eh? Interesting, interesting! Probably possibly is worth watching in that case!
Didn't read your POTC comments as still to see it, hopefully later this week, yay!
