Hello. It's me. I'd like to apologise again, really, for my general lack of posting nowadays. This time I have an actual excuse though, as I've been at my parents' for the week. I went down for Halloween, and then stuck around for my dad's birthday on Bonfire Night. And then a bit longer. But anyway, I'm back now.

My parents do have computers, and there's even one in my room at home, but on the second day I used it, it broke. For which my dad blamed me, of course. It had had some problems the last time I was down with not acknowledging the wireless keyboard and not starting up, which my dad apparently tried to fix with a system restore, before realising it didn't need one. I noticed while I was using it that it wasn't playing any sound, and we put some software on it to make it make sound, and I was messing about opening a lot of tabs at once and trying to run scans and download a copy of the Adam and Joe show from last week. Things I do on my laptop, which I didn't realise was newer than the computer at my parents'. But anyway, the next time I tried to use it it said some Windows startup file was lost or corrupted. It probably was me who did something that made it break, but I'm not sure that wanting a computer to make sound or using it to look at things on the internet is a particularly outrageous thing to do. But anyway, it broke, and I was stuck using my dad's, when he wasn't on it.

Some good things happened this week. I went to a Halloween party for kids at the local squash club with my two nephews, although they didn't actually turn up with my sister and her partner for about an hour after we did. But it was quite nice when they were there, and it's more than I usually do for Halloween most years. I saw quite a bit of my two nephews, especially the youngest one, who I hardly ever see apart from his brother. He came round on Tuesday, and we had a decent time, even though his favourite game now seems to be "throw anything you can pick up at anyone near you". On Wednesday I had to come back to Nottingham for a Jobseeker's appointment and to hand in a bunch of documents for my Jobseeker's and Housing Benefit claim, but my dad offered to drive me since he was off work, instead of me having to get at a train and stay over on Tuesday night, so it was quite pleasant really. It turns out a lot of the benefits people looking at my claims were quite upset about a direct debit my grandmother gives me of £40 a month. Upset and confused. But I explained in Statement Form form that it was £10 a week pocket money she'd made into a standing order so she wouldn't forget if she didn't see me, and I handed in a bunch of other things the Housing Benefit people wanted to see, so hopefully that'll be pretty much sorted soon. Hopefully.

I went to my youngest nephew's play group with him and my mum on Thursday, and then we went back to my parents' and played the Throwing Things game, and then there was cake and a sing-song for my dad, and then we went to a bonfire. A little bit late, as usual, but there was steak pie and peas when we got there, and we were in time for the fireworks, which were quite good. My youngest nephew watched them through his hands, but my eldest nephew seemed to enjoy them. Hurrah.

On Friday, the Threadless t-shirts I ordered a few weeks ago (which my mother lent me the money for, because I couldn't really afford them, but they are quite lovely) - well they didn't arrive, because we'd had a card the day before saying they wanted to deliver them to us, really they did, but there was a customs charge of £11.24 we had to pay first. Damn them. So I went and I paid it, and got them, and turned out I had totally figured the size right, and they are quite great, so hurrah.

And then yesterday we took my nephews to Stockeld Park, to see the polar bear arrive. It was anamatronic, but it looked quite real, and they seemed to enjoy it. And we did the enchanted walk, which is a little walk through a wood surrounded by various fantasy or fairytale-themed light installations. We did it once in the afternoon, and then again just as it was getting dark, and it was really good, actually, particularly when it was a bit darker. We went round the Christmas shop, which had some quite beautiful decorations and to which I'm planning to go back to at some point. Then on the way back my dad dropped me off at Leeds train station, and I had a rather great train ride back to Nottingham, being able to see a bunch of firework displays and some bonfires (a few of them must have been quite huge) in the dark on the way back.

Oh God, also, I went to see a play at the Playhouse on Wednesday which had Matthew Needham in it. Who plays/played Toby in Casualty. It was the Grapes of Wrath and it was really good. BUT TOBY. I LOVE HIM. HE PLAYED A SLOW SORT OF CHARACTER THAT FELL IN LOVE WITH A RIVER. As per usual, he played a character that left the story halfway through, but even so, it was great. And later he played an extra, I think, at a dance, and he danced with a girl. SHE WAS A LUCKY GIRL INDEED. Afterwards there was a chat with the cast, which we didn't know about but stayed for, and Sorcha Cusack, who was also on Casualty but not when he was I think and who was playing Ma Joad, sat next to him and put her hand on his knee, for like ages. WHICH IS A TOTALLY RATIONAL COURSE OF ACTION. Oh, I love him. It was a bit great.

I don't think I mentioned, before I went to my parents', I went to Blackpool for a day last week. It was my mother's idea - me, my sister, her and my two nephews went and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast for the night last Thursday, while my nephew was on half term, so they could see the illuminations. It was quite great, even if we didn't get very much done the next day. And then I ran back to Nottingham to see Simon Amstell on Friday night. Which was great. I HAVE HAD A BUSY WEEK. BUSY BUT GREAT.

Lilliput Lane are doing pieces based on Yorkshire Heritage buildings (or just Yorkshire buildings) at the moment. I didn't know they did actual places that exist. It's almost enough to make me want to get some. The Peter Jones in my home town promised there was a Wakefield Cathedral piece somewhere, but it wasn't anywhere on the shelf. That's just teasing, really.
