Some other things that have happened in my life:
- I made it to Holmfirth for the art market on Sunday. Despite it taking two hours to get there, getting up late, and missing the next bus after I did get up. On the way, I discovered exactly how beautiful some of the rural towns only a few hours busride from my house could be. The main ones being West Clayton and Denby Dale. It's hard to describe, they were just full of weird little cottages and churches and things that obviously used to be churches but weren't anymore. They were sort of creepy and beautiful at the same time. It was a really nice busride. Then I got to Holmfirth, which was also beautiful. It's an old mill town, and they've got a slightly exaggerated idea of what a river is, but it's a really beautiful place all the same. The art market was also lovely, and I manfully bought hardly anything. Unfortunately, the jewelley maker I'd been meant to be picking my necklace up from had forgotten it, which was disappointing, but I know her quite well and she was really nice about it, and she's promising me a big discount when I finally do get it, so I'm not too upset. But it was a really nice day out either way. I had lunch in a tearoom, decorated with little teapots. It was wicked.
- I may have made a huge mistake in, having finished the main questline of Oblivion, installing and starting the two expansion packs included in the Fifth Anniversary Edition at the same time. The problem is that one comes before the other, it doesn't have to but technically, you know, but I like the second one better. So I'm just playing both! And not really focusing properly on either! And it sort of gives me a headache! But maybe it's better than just playing one until it's used up and then using up the other, I don't know. Probably I should still just pick one and stick with it.
- Yesterday I managed to make it to my jewellery course, go most of the way to make my first 'piece' (a very, very small house with windows on that might be going to be a brooch or pin), then get to Wakefield for my counselling, and in between I got a call offering me an interview for the job I applied for. Considering that I started my period on Monday and didn't know if I was going to be able to stand up yesterday, it turned out to be a very good day :D
- Death Valley turned out to not have done the horrible thing I thought it might do, hurrah! And it did something else that pleased me. So hurrah again!
- I watched Grimm, episode 1.03. Oh. Well. It was going SO WELL, or FINE, while it looked like it was just going to be a case-of-the-week type of deal. But then it sort of went rubbish at the end when they started putting big arc stuff in. I saw another person criticising the episode for some things that I don't really think happened, but still, it wasn't great. Hopefully they'll stop doing that. Or just save it for, idk, later in the season? When they're meant to have hopefully set up or settled their premise a bit more, so they can start bringing in twists and revelations and picking up big stuff from the pilot? I don't know, dudes.
Mostly I think even that stuff could be fine if they would just give Nick a personality of some kind. I mean genuinely, I don't think he's that bad, and he's got some set-up, and some motivation, which is all good. If they would just give him something like a hobby, or a taste in music or something, it could be really, really bearable. And we might even start to care about him a bit. Enough to actually care about the big arc stuff. They haven't done that so far. I do quite like him with Eddie, though.
And I still like Eddie, and his partner, and his girlfriend. My main actual problems with the episode were still basically that he hasn't ended things with his girlfriend and sent her away yet like his aunt told him to, and that just seems irresponsible. And that Nick wore red and went to talk to Eddie, and despite Eddie saying 'seeing red' was a problem for his species, nothing happened. Those particular things I feel like they should sort out and work on, to please my various whims the most. The rest was fine. - I also watched Once Upon A Time, episode 1.04. This, on the other hand, improved on last week, mostly because we didn't spend half our time in fairyland, with a storyline I didn't care about. I've decided to not care about them messing around with the fairytales anymore. I've probably already said this, but I really just don't get why, when the modern versions are supposed to be a twist on the older stories, they'd want to also add twists to the older stories as well. But they do, apparently, and at least they did something interesting with it this week. Killing fairy godmothers and mixing up Rumpelstiltskin and Cinderella and so on. They messed about with Rumpelstiltskin a bit though. I mean, he is well known for giving up his name REALLY EASILY and to ANYONE WHO ASKS FOR IT, of course. But whatever. On the other hand, it may be a bit of fridge brilliance or it may just be me grasping at straws, but him having a cane actually makes quite a lot of sense, given that his original story ended with him putting his leg through a floor.
Anyway. I quite enjoyed it though. Although frankly, if after months or weeks or whatever of studying the fairytales book, as well as KNOWING FAIRYTALES, if Henry couldn't work out that a maid called ASHLEY was probably Cinderella, then he is STUPID. Maybe he didn't know about her I guess. But still. Shouldn't he have more people in his dossier of 'People in town who are probably fairytale characters' by now, other than his mother, his therapist and his primary school teacher? Have we even SEEN this dossier? WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING HENRY? Also, Henry's really quite obnoxious. Eww. But, on a speculation front, if Rumpelstiltskin has power over Emma and she owes him a favour, and he has a habit of taking firstborn children, that might become a little dangerous down the line if she becomes more attached to Henry. Why does he even want kids so badly anyway? Maybe he just wants to be a dad. Who knows?
And the other weird twist was obviously the sheriff sleeping with the mayor. To be honest, I kind of figured there might be something up with him. Mostly because a while back I was trying to figure out who the Big Bag Wolf might be, if indeed is or gets to be anyone, and I realised that LITERALLY ANYONE who isn't already a fairytale character could be him (or her, I guess), since in the story, he does seem quite nice when Red first meets him. And, you know, it's a bit suspicious anyway that he's been in the show for so long and hasn't been identified as a particular character yet. Thinking about it though, he's probably more likely to be the huntsman than the big bad wolf. With the potential to take pity and go against the queen and all. But we'll see, I guess. Mostly what's annoying me with the show at the moment, apart from the constant fairyland flashbacks, is having a bunch of extras in it who aren't identified as characters yet. Like David Anders last week. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHO HE WAS. I mean, he probably wasn't Doc. Hopefully. Or that date with Snow White possibly just got even weirder. I think they should just identify everyone all the time, frankly, if EVERYONE'S a fairytale character. Once again, to feed my random whims. But still. It was quite good. Especially compared to episode 3. - Also, adverts. During the time when I wasn't posting, I discovered what was probably my least favourite advert in the whole world. It's had a lot of competition over the years, but it's definitely, definitely the McDonalds 'On The Street Where You Live' advert. It's just such a perfect combination of trying to be something it isn't, hideous, and nothing, that I really can't believe it. Shortly after I made this decision, I didn't see it as much, and thought they'd pulled it. But no. It's still on. It's horrific.
Also, on a similar note but much better note, Charlie Brooker and We Love Hollyoaks have pointed out the Sevenesque-ness of the new John Lewis christmas advert. And now I can't unsee it. - Someone I don't know is following me on Twitter. I forgot about that aspect of the whole social networking thing. Ugh. It's fine I'm sure. They haven't talked to me yet. I just cannot imagine what they have joined up for, looking at my tweets page. But they did. Fine.
- That is all the news I can think of right now.
