I've been to London, to visit the Cee

Hello. I just back from London. Sadly, I forgot to turn on the boiler before going to get food and eating some of it, so I can't have a shower for another half an hour or so. Probably I should be unpacking, but we all know LJ is where it's at. And it can wait.

I went to London. Possibly I didn't mention that before I went. I was at Cee's, who is lovely, and fed me cake, and only slightly tortured me with her bizarre neighbours.

On Friday we went to see Order of the Phoenix. After reading some of the books, I sort of feel a bit more for Harry. Or maybe it's just because the last few films have him getting beaten up a lot more. This is going to be short, but basically I liked it. It looked gorgeous, the acting from the younger characters seemed have improved, and I was properly interested to see where the plot went. The ending felt a bit...anticlimactic. Because so much was made of Voldemort being able to get into Harry's head which is a slight kink of mine and then not much seemed to come of it, maybe. But maybe because it's really just starting to build up to what will happen in Book 7. The releases are quite well-timed, I guess. Mostly I can't believe it's pretty much going to be over by next weekend. Besides fandom fall-out, obviously.

But yes, I liked it. Liked Harry being more alone and cut-off. Liked Umbridge, who really convinced me as a character, if I'm not sure we ever got a sense of what she wanted out of what she did. I liked Luna, who I maintain looks like a young Tom Felton. And speaking of, we didn't see much of Draco, but he wasn't vital to the plot, I guess. I LOVED Dumbledore's escape. I think maybe he should quit being a headmaster and be the ringleader of a young gang of thieves, maybe. Escapes always come in handy then. Loved his fight with Voldemort at the end too, obviously. I did not love the scene with the Weasley twins flying through the examination. Probably it was a great victory for individualism over fascism. It left me cold. Sirius' death was also strangely not moving. Maybe it wouldn't have if it had seemed like he had anything he wanted to live for, but who knows. I can't say if that's how it is in the book, though I heard similar reactions. I loved Bellatrix licking her Dark Mark, but she didn't really do anything after that. Which was annoying.

I kept seeing weird connections with Terminator 2 (an apocalyptic-seeming scene set in a playground, the constant warnings of a storm coming), but Cecilia convinced me I was ENTIRELY IMAGINING IT. And Voldemort had Sylar powers at one point. That was quite win. But yes. Overall, a thumbs up from me :)

And then on Saturday we went for a Greasy Spoon breakfast and I made her watch Welcome to Collinwood (oh God, Sam Rockwell). She seemed to like it. And was quite nice about my random babbling about Peter/Sylar. Mostly I owe her for quite a lot this weekend. THANKS, CEE. And then - I don't even know where the time went, we were going to see a football match and I SAID YES but Cee backed down, and then we went to a tiny little stuffy room above a pub, in which we cleverly positioned ourselves next to the only open window, and watched a secret gig with Rich Hall. Rich Hall is great. He told massive lies to a taxi driver about being a rocket scientist trying to stop an explosion, and the taxi driver was suprised because he thought Rich only wrote a book about Sniglets. Mostly Rich said Britain was great for not being upset about explosions or much of anything really, and complained about there being no air in the room. And I made eye contact with a nice looking boy near the front a number of times. Which was pleasant. Sadly the seven months pregnant female Iranian comedian who was meant to be on after Rich couldn't make it, but we stayed and listened to some songs about Spain and senoritas, and then a guy who'd just got of the stage at some other bar be funny for five or ten minutes, and then went home.

Today I was not woken up by Cee's neighbours knocking on the door and trying to get a couch up the stairs. Just Cee wanting to jump on me. We had cake for breakfast, and watched the Hot Fuzz commentary, from which we mostly learned that Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright are a bit in love with Timothy Dalton. Searching for fic afterwards led us finding the Hot Fuzz fic archive, though it sadly does not include much fic about the aforementioned Dalton. Inexplicably. Then we tried to learn blackjack (mostly failed), watched the last episode of Heroes, and I ATTEMPTED to show Cee the glory of macros. It didn't so much work. And then I came home. It was all very good.

Also, Cee's mouse is great. If a bit trippy.

I guess the boiler will be done by now. I have to go get a shower for work. I keep meaning to post about work. Remind me tomorrow.

Ooh, lightning.

Oh, you saw Rich Hall? That's quite a great thing to do. I like him lots. Him and his massively lugubrious face. WELCOME BACK. I'm glad Cee's was hurrahful. Also I read Order of the Phoenix as Order of the Cervix, but I see my mistake now.

We did! It was quite strange to see him not being grilled by a British comedy quizmaster, but there he was. Doing stand-up. He was quite good.

Also I read Order of the Phoenix as Order of the Cervix

THAT SHOULD BE THE ALTERNATE VERSION.

Cee's was indeed hurrahful, hurrah for it. Some day I plan to see more of London than the inside of her flat when I go see her. No time soon though, apparently.

::dances you::

OTF, baby. WHO TOLD YOU ABOUT THE MOUSE? Although there was a mouse. I'm getting a bit confused now. If you'd had a mouse that changed colours in your flat, I would have been a bit more impressed. As it was it was just great. I love your hardware. Even if it hates speakers.
