Let me tell you about Peter Schibetta and Simon Adebisi
I've been meaning to make this post for a few weeks but, as usual, screencapping took WAY longer than I expected. So now you get it on Boxing Day. But not on Christmas or Christmas Eve. Um. Merry Christmas?
Out of all the terrible pairings I have, this one is probably the worst, and the one I feel the worst about. And I am saying that as someone who adores non-con and dub-con fic. BUT I STILL LOVE IT. So I wanted to post about it.
Now, even that lj-cut tag makes me feel bad. But oh well.
So. Peter Schibetta and Simon Adebisi are characters out of Oz. Oz is a TV show about life in a maximum security prison. You've probably heard of it. Simon Adebisi is a crazy, pretty much constantly high rapist in jail for beheading an undercover cop. He is in a black gang in Oz, and in Season 1 he gets into a conflict with the leader of the Mafia gang in Oz, Nino Schibetta, and he and a random 'Irish' guy called Ryan O'Reilly end up killing Nino by secretly putting ground glass in his food. In season 2, Nino's son Peter gets arrested, and ends up coming to Oz to run the Italians, and take back some territory that Adebisi's gang ended up gaining. Things don't go very well.
So. This is Peter Schibetta:

Except actually, this is Peter Schibetta:

Way before he turns up in season 2, you actually see him in season 1 when he visits his father. You may notice he has different hair - get used to that. All I can think is that the hair people just loved to get their hands on his hair, or on him. But anyway. He came to tell his father about his mother, who's dying of what sounds like a very drawn-out illness, and about his cousin's funeral, and to have a bit of a cry, right there in the prison visiting room.

When I watched seasons 1, 2 and 3 in a row last year, I did not connect him with this earlier scene at all.
You may notice that Peter Schibetta is very pretty. I have taken many screencaps of him. I'm going to try not to just wax lyrical about him, or talk about how much I love the back of his neck. You may see a FEW pictures of him on my Tumblr for the next few weeks, though.
So yes, Peter comes to prison, as you can see in the picture above where he wears the fetching vest. He has something over the warden in a Mafia like way, so he takes a few things back over from Adebisi. I have less pictures of Adebisi than I do of Peter, I think just because I assume most people will have heard of Oz and Adebisi by now? If not, he's coming.
Peter takes back the drug trade, and starts going to stupid McManus' meetings about prison affairs. Here he is noting that Oz already has an education programme:

Because he cares about their education opportunities, apparently? WHY WOULDN'T YOU RESEARCH THAT IF YOU WERE GOING INTO PRISON. THAT'S WHAT THE MAFIA IS ALL ABOUT.
During this season, I also learned that TV Mafia guys love tracksuits, apparently.

This makes him easy to spot in crowd scenes at least. When I look to see if Peter is in the background of some scene, I can usually just think "yes, he's probably the one in the insanely brightly coloured tracksuit".

Here is a picture of Peter harassing the prison warden, and in the background you can see Adebisi having a lounge:

That tells you pretty much all you need to know about Adebisi at this point, to be honest. The things you notice when you're going through a scene frame by frame.
Anyway, so Peter comes into Oz, he takes back the kitchen, which is super important to prisoners for some reason, and he takes back the drug trade. Ryan O'Reilly - you remember him? - immediately gets super threatened by this, and goes off to immediately rat out Adebisi, telling Peter Adebisi (and only Adebisi) killed his father.

Peter works out because he loves me.

Peter shows that he's PROBABLY THE MOST INTELLIGENT MAN IN OZ, by not just immediately believing everything Ryan O'Reilly says. However, it turns out Ryan needn't have bothered, because Adebisi, also annoyed that Peter is taking back the drugs trade, decides to tell Peter himself.

Close. What he actually says to Peter is that Peter looks just like his father, and I misheard it as both "except you're still pretty" and "except you're so pretty", but the actual line is "except you're still breathing". Then he tells Peter he MISSES Peter's father. Peter takes this about as well as you might expect.

What's I like about Peter's relationship with his father is that he obviously didn't agree with him on everything - in that first scene where he visits his father in prison, his father asks about Peter's mother's doctor and whether he's a Jew, and Peter looks like he's on the verge of rolling his eyes at him, but answers him anyway. And in season 2 the prison warden tells Peter that his dad had way more respect for everyone than Peter does, and Peter says his dad lived by a code that doesn't exist anymore, and that it got him killed. But, y'know, he was still his father, and Peter obviously still massively looks up to him. So yeah, he takes is pretty personally that Adebisi obviously killed him.
I LOVE PETER. Have I mentioned? Here is a picture of him and the other Italians reacting to a guy falling off a balcony in front of them:

And then Peter GETS UP:

And...goes over to check if he's okay? He probably isn't, Peter.

There is plenty that is jerky about Peter, but plenty that is lovely as well. Along with Richie Hanlon:

And Coushaine:

Season 2 was kind of like the season of 'people who probably shouldn't have been in prison, being in prison'.
But anyway. Peter is pissed off at Adebisi. Adebisi isn't so fond of Peter. And what's weird about their relationship is that it's both sort of not particularly slashy, but also extremely hypersexualised. Which is sometimes the way of things in Oz. But anyway.
At the next 'prison affairs' meeting, Peter brings up a 'grievance' that "some guys stink", obviously aimed at Adebisi and intended to piss him off. But the minute he says that, a bunch of other guys in the room also go 'Adebisi' and 'maybe you should take a bath sometime'. So in a way it does seem like Peter just took offence at his lack of hygiene standards. However, he gets kind of super racist about it, and says he knows some people come from far away countries, but here in America, they bathe more often.

Adebisi gets up and asks if Peter wants them to take a shower together, so they can soap each other up.

Then they have kind of a fight about it.

Later on, Peter calls Miguel Alvarez, the leader of the latino gang, into his cell for a chat.

Solitaire is awesome.
Peter offers Alvarez a massive share in the drug trade if he kills Adebisi for him. However, because everyone in Oz is incredibly paranoid about people trying to start wars between their gangs, and I guess because he doesn't relish trying to kill Adebisi, Alvarez assumes Peter is just trying to set him up, and turns him down. Not even Peter's beautiful eyelashes can convince him differently.

Later on, Adebisi also offers Alvarez a piece of HIS drugs trade, if Adebisi kills Peter for him.

Alvarez gets all giggly. But he's not in this pairing, even though he tries to be.
So Peter and Adebisi have to express their feelings in the most heterosexual way possible. That's right, a barely-dressed staring contest.

While Alvarez is all like "Yeahhhhhhhh!"

You can't tell in those pictures, but Adebisi is dancing at Peter. Dancing his murderous rage. For the full effect of the scene, see this gifset.
In the next episode, Peter has mysteriously changed to this hairstyle.

I didn't think I liked it at first, but it's sort of grown on me. I'm assuming he's trying to look a Shark and/or a Jet. Or that he's just trying to look less actively attractive in prison. Or maybe that's his "I mean business" haircut. I don't know. But anyway.

He dresses out of love for me.
Peter and Adebisi are for some reason working in the kitchen together, even though Peter runs the kitchen. Adebisi is trying to play it cool and mockingly pretend he wants to be Peter's friend.

This is apparently a completely appropriate distance to stand from someone who's basically admitted to killing your father.

I'm just going to leave this here.
Peter mockingly asks Adebisi to go get him a chocolate bar, since they're such good friends. Adebisi gets just a little bit closer to say okay:

and goes off to do so. On the way he meets Alvarez, who tells him that he thinks Peter's blackmailing the warden, and that Adebisi should try to just slow Peter down a bit and maybe the warden won't look into it too much. So Adebisi covers the chocolate bar he's getting for Peter in rat poison. And Peter, flying in the face of my earlier statement about him being the most intelligent man in Oz, TAKES THE CHOCOLATE BAR and EATS IT. So he ends up poisoned. And the warden, having got wind of the fact that Peter and Adebisi might be about to kill each other, has gotten rid of the thing Peter was blackmailing him over, and goes to tell Peter that he won't be doing him any 'favours' any more.

He gets very close to him, because no-one can help a thing like that.
The next episode is where things get bad. As Peter's getting out of hospital, one of the undercover Mafia people on staff comes over to talk to him about how the Mafia is concerned that Peter's a bit rubbish. Peter doesn't think it's his fault that he got poisoned. The guy is all "YOU TOOK THE CHOCOLATE BAR AND YOU ATE IT, PETER". Peter pretty obviously starts to panic about the fact the rest of the Mafia will look down on him really quickly and really easily apparently, and are starting to talk about him not being as good as his dad. Because his dad got murdered SLOWLY, you know. Peter's voice actually starts to break in one part of the scene, as if he's going to cry (again).

I want to include that last one because it's Peter hearing this tirade and TURNING HIS COLLAR DOWN. Because even while losing the respect of his organisation and his peers, he can't be handling that shit.
Peter gets upset and swears that he's going to get his honour back. He says that by the end of the day either Adebisi or him is going to be in a body bag - and I love that he says Adebisi OR him. Like even now, he's still not going crazy putting up a front, he's still aware that, and admitting that, he might fail at that.

Anyway. He goes back to the main prison area. But things aren't great for him. The other prisoners make fun of him:

Adebisi dances at him:

He can't sleep:

So the next day he decides to try and finally sort things out, and he and his second-in-command go to fight Adebisi.

And I wouldn't mind this fight - but later on in the season there is another fight in the kitchen, and Kenny, KENNY of all people, handles it better than Peter and his dude do. Kenny grabs a knife, because they are in a kitchen, and surrounded by weapons. Kenny takes advantage of having the drop on someone, because if you have that advantage, YOU MAY AS WELL MAKE USE OF IT. Peter and his dude just rely on hitting Adebisi, even though Adebisi is REALLY PRETTY GOOD AT FIGHTING. It doesn't go so well. Peter gets knocked out, Peter's dude gets knocked out. And then Adebisi rapes Peter. Because that's kind of his thing. I have pictures of that scene, but I decided not to post them. You totally get to see it though. Really pretty graphically.
Later on Peter is in the hospital, saying he doesn't know what happened. But medically speaking, everyone knows exactly what happened. The undercover Mafia guy goes over to Peter quietly, and with what sometimes looks like regret, and sometimes looks like nothing, tells Peter he's out of The Family. Peter responds with a small, understanding nod.

The Mafia guy turns to leave, and then Peter calls him back. He begs the guy not to tell his father. The guy is all "...what?". And Peter asks him again not to tell his father what happened. The father who died over a year ago.

So yeah. Peter goes crazy.
You might be wondering why I like this pairing. Most of the time, so do I. Except that most of this stuff is stuff I love in a series of other pairings. It's usually a bit less concentrated though.
So Peter goes off to the psych ward, and he's kind of out of the main action of Oz for the rest of the season. However, Adebisi's storyline continues with him meeting another old African prisoner who starts calming him down, which suggests that Adebisi maybe feels some remorse for the way he is. And it also goes on with Peter's Mafia godfather - his real godfather - coming to Oz to run things for the Sicilians, and wanting revenge on Adebisi for raping Peter. This ends with Adebisi being cut off from his heroin supply and going into withdrawal, and the Sicilians and the rest of Adebisi's gang killing the old prisoner he's become friends with, and as a result Adebisi has a breakdown and also ends up being sent off to the psych ward. And they put him in the cell next to Peter's, because apparently they thought that was a brilliant plan.

Sister Pete judges everyone in this situation.
So the season ends with them both in the psych ward, both traumatised, and both having ultimately been screwed over by their own gangs. I do like the symmetry of that.
Season three pretty much begins with Adebisi getting out of the psych ward, apparently rehabilitated and very nice now. Before that however, he has one last interaction with Peter. A fellow inmate goes into Peter's cell one day and attacks him. Adebisi is all:

"What?"
He goes into Peter's cell, drags the other inmate off him, and then while Peter is freaking out, he calms him down, and cleans his face.

I read about that scene in two different pieces of fic before I understood that it was a REAL THING THAT HAPPENED, and that I should probably get on with watching season 3. And it is weird, because Adebisi pretends in the next few episodes that he is being nice when he is clearly not, and is actually planning revenge. But you never find out for sure whether he really did come around in the psych ward, and genuinely protected Peter and only decided to get revenge on people when he got out and remembered everything they'd done to him. Or if he was planning to get revenge all along, but felt some remorse over Peter or just randomly protected him now he was no longer a threat. Or if he realised that being nice to Peter would be a really good way to pretend he had changed, enough to get him out to the people who'd betrayed him, so he decided to use Peter one last time.
And that's pretty much it for their interaction on the show. As far as I know they don't meet again in the last three seasons, and we don't learn anything else in season 3 except that Adebisi is totally style:

So yeah. That's my pairing. I KIND OF LOVE THEM. Somehow. And I would love to say that it's not because of the non-con elements, but the fact is that I didn't really take a lot of notice of them/Peter before the rape scene. Except that I noticed them having half-naked staring contests, obviously. It was around the time I also watched Death Valley, in which one of those characters also kills someone, and ends up with the person/creature's dad coming around being all touchy feely with them. And it seemed like all of TV was conspiring to tell me that if you kill somebody, you get to take an equivalent place in their family members' affections.
But I went back through the season/s and rewatched them, and I discovered I really did love Peter Schibetta. And I think a lot of my love for the pairing is that I love him, and I want someone to protect him, and - maybe out of punishment for hurting Peter - I have decided that Adebisi should be that someone. Mostly I imagine AUs when I think of fic for Peter and Adebisi. AUs and ARs. But the fact is that when I think about their personalities, putting them together just really works for me. Because Peter really seemed like he should not have been in the Mafia, not even in his first scene in season 1, a bit like his cousin Dino, whose murder in the first episode of Oz essentially sparked this whole storyline off. But neither of them had much choice, because they were both born into it. They were literally in the family, as well as in The Family. But Peter just never really had what it took to lead, and was obviously way happier and way better off when his dad was in charge and he was following his lead. And Adebisi is pretty good at being in charge of things, but doesn't do so well with either relying on people, or finding people who are worth relying on. And I really think, in another world, he would have really benefited from having someone around who was - well, let's say not "on the ball" enough to be constantly suspecting everyone around them and assuming people were trying to start wars, which Peter managed to resist throughout his stint on Oz. I don't know. When I genuinely think of Peter and Adebisi in another situation, working together, I do sort of feel like they could click.
And unusually for me, when I think of fic for this pairing, I end up sort of avoiding non-con and dub-con elements. Although I sometimes still do think of them, because I find non-con and dub-con really hot. But as well as non-con and dub-con, I also like happy endings, which presents a problem in many many plotbunnies. But with Peter, I know that his canonical response to being raped is to go crazy, and there isn't much getting around that. So, ironically, my fic ideas end up having to be way tamer than the actual canon for my pairing. Which is a huge turnaround from how it usually goes.
There are three fics for this pairing, which is lovely, and makes me feel like WAY LESS OF A FREAK. However, if you really don't like the whole 'manipulating someone who's crazy' thing (although in the only fic where that leads to sex, it's a bit debatable), you probably won't enjoy them much. And even if you don't mind that, they're pretty messed up.
Angel is the longest one, and the one where that type of thing leads to sex, as I've said. It's set post-season 2 and sort of inserts scenes into season 4. It's really good, but pretty fucked up.
Burning Bridges goes through some scenes of season 2, including the rape scene, and is then set between seasons 2 and 3 again, but is mostly about Adebisi protecting Schibetta and sort of thinking over their situation.
And Protection is a short AU where Peter never went crazy after being raped, and has to come back and come to terms with Adebisi being in Oz with him.
I have also come up with a pairing name, although I mostly only use it to myself. I know that when you create a smush name you ought to take as much from one person's name as the other's. But 'Abetta' sounds like an actual crime/criminal, so I like it anyway. Abetta. My OTP - so far - for Oz. And by the way, I have not watched seasons 4 to 6 fully yet, but I know what happens. You probably can't spoil me for them (although you never know), but there's probably not much point trying to discuss them with me either. If you wanted to.
SO THAT IS MY WORST PAIRING EVER. TRALALA.
And in case anyone was wondering, the way to go back to the old posting page instead of the new one, is to make your post way, way, way too long.
Out of all the terrible pairings I have, this one is probably the worst, and the one I feel the worst about. And I am saying that as someone who adores non-con and dub-con fic. BUT I STILL LOVE IT. So I wanted to post about it.
