So the Wylde storyline on Emmerdale kind of came to a head tonight. At any rate, Nathan confessed, then Natasha confessed, and Maisie called the police, and Natasha has been arrested. Here is what happened, INTERSPERSED WITH SOME STORYLINES THAT WERE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WYLDES AND WHICH INFURIATED ME WHENEVER THEY CAME ON:
So, the truth is out. Natasha has been arrested, and apparently it was Amanda Donohoe's last day on the programme. Ryan will probably be freed soon. Everyone still hates Nathan. And Declan is somewhere around. Probably the fall-out will happen over the next few days. I hope it is a happy (ish) ending for Nathan. I hope that quite a lot.
Also there was quite scary new Poirot on tonight. I can't tell if it's part of the modern adaptations, but were there always so many lesbian couples in the Agatha Christie books? Also, that kid's going to have great life, isn't she? Oh well.
And I had my first group CBT therapy session today as well. It was alright, not too bad, there's only about four people other than me, and the woman running it said we don't have to talk or share at all over the weeks if we keep going, which is quite nice. For my social awkwardness/anxiety, at least. Also, I'm pretty sure there was a Jon Burgerman picture on the wall, which was quite nice to see, if nothing else. Hurrah.
- Cain had Nathan tied up in a barn, with both of them knowing that Ryan had been found guilty. Nathan was not terrified like he was yesterday, but seemed fairly convinced that Cain wouldn't either kill or torture him, and was even back on calling Ryan a murderer when they both know it's not true.
- Declan came back from Singapore and got to the court just as Maisie and Faye were coming out. They both shouted at Natasha a bit, then he went off to comfort Faye, and Maisie got a mysterious call.
- Natasha got home to find Will there, having basically run away from some woman named Helen she'd left him with, and she told him about Ryan being found guilty, 'explained' about how Ryan was apparently a murderer, and that he hadn't hated Will, he was just angry at his dad.
- Declan appeared getting out of a taxi with Faye in the village, having come back from court and apparently left Maisie there?
- Maisie suddenly turned up at the barn where Cain was keeping Nathan, so actually maybe she left before Declan.
- Nathan had already tried to buy Cain off, claiming "there's always a price with you", but Cain had refused. Maisie called him, he blindfolded Nathan, telling him he'd invited someone else along. Then he went outside to get her and brought her in, and Nathan, unable to see her, begged whoever it was to help him, telling them whatever Cain had said was a lie.
- Cain removed the blindfold, Nathan saw it was Maisie, he said "Thank God it's you", and asked her to untie him, and told her Cain had kidnapped him and been torturing him. Maisie dropped her bag and made it quite clear she wouldn't be untying anyone.
- Nathan told her Cain had been manipulating her, that because she was vulnerable he'd made her believe what he wanted her to believe. She said, "Oh, because I'm such a PUSHOVER, and you've always been the clever one?", and Nathan looked at her and said "Not now, Maisie. Please just untie me."
- Maisie kept insisting that he'd killed their dad. Nathan swore that he hadn't, that he could never have hurt him. She refused to believe him, and I think picked up a wooden beam. Nathan told Maisie he loved her. Maisie lifted the beam. Nathan told her he was lying for her, because the truth would kill her, and begged her not to hurt him. Maisie lifted the beam again. Nathan told her it was their mum that had killed their dad. Maisie dropped the beam and looked distraught. Cain looked intrigued.
- We went back to Home Farm, where Natasha had explained that Maisie was staying with Faye for a while and Nathan was away for a bit as well. Will was saying that it was just those two then, and that he'd take care of her while Maisie and Nathan were gone. Natasha laughed and said something about supper being ready soon. She went into the kitchen, looking slightly upset, and like some kind of assassin, Cain was waiting for her.
- Cain asked Natasha how Nathan was. She said he was fine, he was just away for a bit. He said he had some news about him that was all, but if he was fine, alright. Then she either asked him to stop playing games, or he just out and out said that actually Nathan had been staying with him for a bit, and the text she got from him the other day wasn't actually from him, showing her Nathan's phone from out of his pocket. He told her to come with him if she wanted to find out where he was. Will walked in, and Cain pretended to be all friendly with him, and asked him if he'd like to come on a drive. Will said yes, Natasha refused, and he said he wasn't staying in the house on his own, so Natasha told him to go get his coat.
- Meanwhile, in the barn, Nathan was lying tied up on the floor with Maisie standing over him. She said she couldn't believe he was lying again, he'd lied that it was Ryan, and now he was lying that it was mum, all he cared about was himself. He admitted that he'd lied on the stand, and asked her what she would have done if their mum had come to her and told her she'd murdered their dad. Maisie continued to refuse to believe it was their mum and not him, and kicked him in the stomach.
- Cain, Natasha and Will arrived at the barn, they all got out and Natasha asked him what he wanted to show them then. Then they heard Nathan shouting/screaming in the barn, Natasha ordered Will to get back into the car and ran into the barn, with Cain just behind her.
- In the barn, Maisie was beating the tied up Nathan with the wooden beam from earlier, apparently. She saw their mum, and told her she had to stop lying for Nathan. Nathan told her that he'd had to tell Maisie the truth because he'd thought she was going to kill him. Maisie said couldn't she see, he was lying about her now, she (Natasha) had to go to the police and tell the truth about what had happened, she might get into a bit of trouble, but she could just say that he scared her, or that he attacked her like he'd attacked Faye (but hopefully not exactly like he'd attacked Faye), but she had to get him sent to prison. Because it wasn't true was it? That she'd murdered their dad? How could she have ever have hurt their dad? Natasha took her sweet time, looking down at Nathan, and up at Maisie, but eventually said that yes, actually. Nathan hadn't killed their father. She had.
- Maisie continued to refuse to believe Natasha had killed her dad, and Nathan hadn't. She said she couldn't believe she was lying for him, even now, she knew Nathan was always her favourite, but she couldn't keep protecting him. Natasha ran up to her and grabbed her by the shoulders. Unbeknownst to her, but probably seen by Cain, Will came into the barn behind them. Natasha said that she was the one who had gone out into the woods, that she had been holding the gun, and that she had pulled the trigger, alright? Will said, "Mum?", and she turned around, crying.
- The next scene was them all sitting around in different positions, Maisie on a chair, Natasha knelt beside her I think, Nathan leaning against a wall, Will stood by the door, Cain stood just a little way in front of him. Cain said he didn't think Natasha had had it in her. "Respect". Fuck off Cain. Maisie wanted to know why Natasha had done it. Nathan said it was because their dad had played her for a fool once too often. Natasha said it was because she'd never known that he was planning to run off with Faye again, that she found out the same day Maisie found out about Ryan. Maisie told her to "Say it!". And then said "I fell in love with my brother!". Then we saw Nathan looking worriedly at Will and Will's sad, shocked face. Natasha explained that when she first found out about Faye, she'd forgiven Mark, and then she found out he was planning to run off with her again, and to leave them all. She told them about how she'd come home to find a gun missing, their dad disappeared, and a note, and she'd run out into the woods to find him. Maisie told her not to dare claimed he'd killed himself, and Natasha said "No, in the end he was too much of a coward to even do that". And then he'd just acted like nothing had happened, like everything was just normal, and something inside her just - And then he was lying there, so still, and she walked over to him and said "C'mon, get up. I'm sorry, baby". But he couldn't get up. They all cried.
- Maisie said that she couldn't have buried him all on her own, she must have had Nathan's help. Because apparently no matter what happened, it must be Nathan's fault. Natasha said the ground was frozen, and it had taken her all night, but she'd done it herself. Maisie looked at Nathan and asked him why, why he'd helped her cover it up, why frame Ryan. He said it was an easy choice to make, his mum or Ryan. Natasha (happily) told them she'd forced him to keep quiet. Maisie said she didn't believe it though, that she thought he'd framed Ryan because he knew their dad loved him more than Nathan, that Ryan was the son he'd always wanted, instead of Nathan. Cain chipped in that he was 10 times the man Nathan would ever be, while we saw Nathan looking sort of down at the floor, like he thought it was probably true, which knowing Nathan, he might well have done.
- Natasha told Maisie it wasn't too late, that they could all go away somewhere, tonight, and that she promised she'd make amends. Nathan said it was the only thing that made sense. Maisie said "What, and leave Ryan to rot?". To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Ryan - I don't like how he ignored Maisie's breakdown after they found out they'd nearly slept together as brother and sister, and how he just got back together with the girlfriend he'd cheated on, and I don't really like how he didn't care that Abi the prison guard nearly got into trouble over trying to help him a few weeks ago. I know he was having a difficult time of it himself both those times, but still, I'm not a fan. But he doesn't really deserve to be left in jail like that. Natasha held up her phone and said that if Maisie didn't say anything, she (Natasha) could walk out of there a free woman, or she could use the phone and have her arrested. Maisie took the phone. Nathan started crying, I think. Maisie called the police.
- Natasha was in the barn again. She told Maisie "You know you're sending me to prison, don't you?". YES I THINK SHE KNOWS THAT NATASHA. Maisie possibly said something, I can't remember.
- We cut to Natasha cutting through the ropes tying Nathan's hands, which may have been symbolic now that I think about it. He told her that there was still time, she could run, he said "Please, mum", go. She put her hand on his face, AND THANK FUCK SOMEONE DID THAT, I SINCERELY WANTED SOMEONE TO TOUCH NATHAN'S FACE BEFORE THIS WHOLE ORDEAL WAS OVER, EVEN IF IT WAS NATASHA. And possibly she told him that she couldn't run. She told him to look after Maisie and Will, I think. She asked Maisie if all her years of love and care meant nothing, then, and actually, possibly this was before, when Maisie called the police on her. Fuck off, Natasha. Then she told Will that whatever she'd done, it didn't mean she loved him any less. He just looked at her. Then she went outside, where a bunch of police cars had pulled up, and the detective in charge of the Mark Wylde case had got out, and she walked over to them until two walked up, took her by the arms and arrested her.
