Stuff

It occurs to me, reading back my last post, that I possibly sounded a bit psychopathic about the Claire/West scenes. I will clarify: I can't believe he said "how can I help you if (blah blah blah)?" when there has been no actual indication of her needing his help? Or anyone's help, in particular, except to hide from the Company? So it mostly just comes off like he's trying to convince her she's in need of his help, because...he is a twat. And I can't believe he said "I never want to see you hurt", despite the stuff about it not mattering that she was okay afterward, when Claire's power and strength, up to a point, is that she can be hurt and be okay afterwards. And especially since he talked her into jumping off the sign in the first place, oh God. Mostly it seems, out of context, to be sweet but comes off like he's trying - and mostly succeeding - to control the situation. I really do hope they're leading into a manipulation/stalkerish/Claire in danger again conflict she hopefully gets herself out of, because if it's really a "romance" the politics are just ughhghgh. Mostly I didn't mind this when I'd given up on West as being a decent character. I apparently didn't realise I was actually going to have to watch it.

Also, some moral ambiguities I did notice in recent weeks - not to do with cheating in detective exams:

  1. Matt can totally forgive his wife for moments of weakness and a mistake and stuff, but not for conceiving with the wrong guy.

  2. Which does make you wonder why the kid needed protecting in Five Years Gone.

  3. Organising a fight between ninety warriors and a guy who can't be hurt, for a scroll which as far as I could see they didn't need, isn't really so much fair. Hiro sort of organised a massacre there. Whoops.

I thought the Peter Serafinowicz Show was better tonight. Even if he did rip off Gemmagic.

I also saw Mr Brooks today. It turns out Kevin Costner is actually the most beautiful man alive, when he's playing an ice-cold serial killer. That was a spoiler, unless you've read any information about the film. And Demi Moore managed to not completely annoy me. Hurrah. I have a vague plan for Stardust at some point this weekend.

My current job finished today, which was going to be a lot more dramatic when I posted about it last Monday. Today was mostly a rush of trying to get everything I was working on finished off. It's funny. I did really enjoy it, and it was interesting, and I liked working in a really small department, even if that did put massive amounts of pressure on people when anyone was off. And the day off a week was nice. But I'm not sure I'd have wanted to do it permanently. Even if we did occasionally get letters from Geoff Hoon and Ken Clarke. Anyway. The new permanent woman's starting on Monday, so I'm off. They all thanked me for being around and working hard, and it was lovely, and I left my key and that was that. The agency already have a new job for me at the University on Monday, which will be full time, which is nice because I kind of need the money. Apparently jetting off round the country without buying cheap tickets or anything wasn't my greatest plan. Although fun. But yes. Can't really go anywhere again for a little while, I think. Except for dad's birthday, possibly, in two weeks.

The job has been fairly stressful recently, with me writing the basis of our formal responses to complaints (much harder than filing), and then catching up with the backlog after the main boss guy came back. He was off sick for most of last week, by the way. Meaning I couldn't take my day off till the end of the week. The long weekend was a bit magical, though. In the meantime, I've mostly been trying to watch some of the stuff I've been meaning to watch. Like Arrested Development. And Nightingales Series 1. Carter/Bell/Eric for the win. I'm currently watching Carnivale, as I'm sure some of you will be ecstatic to hear. Oh it's very beautiful, even if a tiny bit draggy sometimes. The sort of main character is a psychic boy with a rather beautiful crush on an older woman at the carnival, which may be to do with massive mummy issues. Oh. It's a bit win. Sadly it's just all a bit time-consuming. Though fun.

In other news...I don't have any other news. That's pretty much it at the moment. My parents are possibly coming to see me at some point, but they haven't mentioned when. The last time they were down I had crispy duck pizza. That was quite good. It turns out chips and barbeque sauce is also one of the best things ever, randomly. There's a guy coming on Saturday to finally take a look at the wasps nest, but I'm pretty sure the cold has mostly killed them off by now. Damn it.

Your attentiveness to other sentences is appreciated. Hopefully it will be great, and should cost less bus fare, hurrah.

Oh Eric. I do like Carter and Bell, but Eric's a werewolf. He started eating his patient! And then Carter and Bell grabbed him by the arms, and that was quite good. Mostly I love the song at the end.

Jack is on my telly and I do not approve. I could always turn the DVD off. But, you know. Yes. Eric. He is a bit lovely. There's no denying it. And the song, yes, I love the song very much and sang it quietly to myself in Berkeley Square once and tried to play it on the guitar. All those things.
