I probably won't be making too many of these now Nathan's gone, but:
So David got cleared of all charges of attempted murder since he's now been officially diagnosed with epilepsy. He came into the pub and saw Graeme and Tina drinking with Gary and Izzy - Gary now being back from the war after nearly being killed, and seeing his best friend killed, in a roadside bomb attack. David went over to talk to Graeme, Tina started getting angry about it, and Gary immediately started casually sticking up for him. Then, later, Gary lost a pound in the games machine at the pub, started getting angry and hitting it, then had a load of plaster come down on his head from the pub roof and really started kicking off at Steve and Becky, and David just sort of jumped in to came things down. It was kind of brilliant. I have wondered, with David coming back to the street after a few weeks, and having to cope with epilepsy now, and Gary having just come back from war having had his traumatic experiences - and David possibly having a similar history to compare it to, given what happened with him and his family and Richard Hillman - whether they might have him and Gary become proper friends now. Given what's happened tonight, maybe they will.
Also, Nick turned up in the pub to celebrate the news of David's court case being dropped, and spent all of the scene talking to his mum about it, rather than actually to David. Such a spectacular display of failing to care much about your brother, I have never seen. However, David is still managing to wind Nick up quite a lot. Which is pretty nice.
- Declan had a party, and accidentally invited mostly men. What a suprise.
- And then he tried to get off with Alicia, who was recently seen flirting with Nathan.
- I mostly spent all of the party scenes imagining what Nathan's reactions to them would be, and how hard he would judge them all. And imagining Declan imagining Nathan's reactions to them. Which, given that he was apparently trying to be as lowbrow and lairy as possible (pinball games and booze?), was possibly the whole idea.
- I do think that everyone in the village might just go mad now they don't have Nathan to focus all of their hatred and rage on. Ryan and Declan at least. Well, we'll see.
