Life on Mars. Is great.

My fandom makes its beautiful AU/future fics CANON!
Sam! And Gene! Running a bar! Each getting on with the locals in their own special way! And wearing shirts!! With Gene's all open at the top, like Sam's usually is, and how did he not seduce Sam there and then with just that?! And Sam cooking, while Gene was around to see! 'Coriander'! '...it's a herb'. I LOVE YOU SAM. And chicken in a basket. Chicken in a basket maybe the best new meal ever, even though it has chicken in it. Literally!
Oh, Gene pretending to be pissed and not really being pissed, but having to let Sam manhandle him anyway, before the usual Slamming-Into-A-Wall, up-close-and-personal, 'do you think they give out DCI badges [somehow somewhere]?'. Hurrah.
Gene mentioned his wife again. This was upsetting :(
Pete Bond was so blatantly trying to lure Sam into the ways of watching football and being gay. Omg. This is probably why Gene really did get so drunk, with SORROW that he could not flirt so easily with Sam. Who is lovely.
Drunken Gene = the new Best Thing Ever. Closely followed by Gene's leather gloves.
Also many other great things that I simply can't remember because I am rubbish, and it is too great (Gene pushing Chris after Coxy pushed Chris! Cattle Rustling! Everyone bringing a bat or a pipe, and Sam having nothing! The love!)
I thought Sam's little speech at the end went on a bit too long, though it was done very well. It was just long, and I kept expecting the guy to be all 'What? What are you talking about? You don't happen to be from 2005, do you?'. And Sam kicking him/punching him after he handcuffed him - that shocked me a bit, although he was sort of resisting arrest. People have suggested that it's Sam becoming as violent as the other police officers, being stuck in their world, which is possibly true, though I hope not. I think the fact that the old style of policing is a lot more frustrating than the modern should be taken into account a bit, and the fact that every big case tends to be horribly stressful for him in a linking-into-his-issues/subconscious way. And probably there will be much comforting from Gene, in a quiet, taking-the-piss-but-worried sort of a way before the series is done.
I also think maybe the girl in the forest is the Test Card Girl. For no good reason.
Next Week: Eek! If Sam dies, I will be most upset. But the phone bit with his mum is heart-wrenching - I really am torn between wanting him to stay in 1973 FOREVER with Gene, and wanting him to wake up (if he is in a coma, which frankly I don't care so much about) and be with his mum. Needless to say, I will be watching from the edge of my seat.
Also,
lakester is great! I love her (him?)! Eeeee, Iain Craig is so sweet! And young! He didn't look pretty on the Missing poster, but OH HE WAS ONSCREEN! In his black shirt. WITH HIS BOYFRIEND, HIS ACTUAL 'I AM GAY' BOYFRIEND, WHO IS NICK! I thought it was a bit odd 'Nick' had the same hairdo as his sister though. Hmm. Craig was not onscreen nearly enough. And Wade John Hannah had far too much sex with Craig's pretty mother, whom he loved from childhood and whatever. But when they found Craig (Stuart), it was John who convinced him to let him and the mother into the flat so he could tell them he was gay. Gay for Nick. Oh it is glorious. If this is what a shortage of Scottish actors gives me, then thank God for a shortage of Scottish actors. Oh. I entertain myself nowadays imagining the conversations and jokes they must have had meeting up again to do the Sea of Souls episode. Oh. It is good :)
I have the Fanfiction book by Sheenagh Pugh. I have The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave. I have a new Constantine novel. I have preordered Green Wing. I do not have my Draco and the Malfoys CD yet. Sadface fullstop. And I do not have the Mighty Boosh boxset, which having seen last night's episode I so totally regret. An example:
(Spider and Rudi. They are mexicans in a band together. Rudi is a psychadelic priest, Spider a 'beast' who just wants to do sex with ladies and has eight penises. They are in a Mexican town for no reason, and Rudi wants them to fight the Betamax Bandit)
SPIDER: You are always like this! Always want to stick around! It is like Glastonbury, eh? You remember? We should have just gone, when the others went, but no you were all 'lets stick around, let's wait', and then we got roped into cleaning up! Me, you and Carlos from Santana. Hoovering. For six weeks! We could have gone when the Who went. Didn't see [somebody from the Who] wearing an apron!
RUDI: Well, you know, what goes around comes around.
SPIDER: What you mean by that?
RUDI: I mean, what goes around comes around. Maybe someday [someone from the Who] will be doing the hoovering.
SPIDER: [Someone from the Who] hoovers for no man.
And later, when they beat the Betamax bandit:
SPIDER: (to Betamax Bandit) And now I'm gonna rewind you...like the bitch you are.
I love this show!

Date: 2006-02-08 12:56 am (UTC)This Dead Souls - is this what someone has recorded or can you buy it? Actually, can you buy any of the Rebus tv programmes (not the most recent one - Ken Stott was rubbish)? Must go check. I have a bit of a Rebus obsession atm - I bought loads of the books in a charity shop and I'm going to be working my way through them *in order* (new thing for me. And technically it's 'in order but not including the ones I've already read')

Date: 2006-02-08 09:14 am (UTC)illegalcopy. You can indeed buy the DVD though - there's a DVD with that episode and two others here (http://www.play.com./play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=R2&title=705024), and I think the series is coming out on March 13th, here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E6UXVQ/qid=1139418763/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_10_2/203-1943405-0281555). I don't know anything about Rebus, but CraigandWadeandNick! It is a thing of beauty :)(no subject)
Date: 2006-02-08 09:32 am (UTC)Ooooh Rebus DVDs. I think I can make space for them...
